Last night I nearly froze to death out in PG County watching this year's Crab Bowl.Game was kinda lame as Bmore beat Washington 28-7. But there were at least 5 Maryland recruits participating at the game and here is how they stacked up:
Baltimore
Malik Jones DE- I think we got a steal in this kid. Big, physical, athletic end who can play that position in the 3-4.Came up with 2 sacks and was probably the best defensive lineman there. The kid is just huge and has everything one needs to be a successful D1 player. Could compete for starting job by sophomore year. Major Sleeper
Deandre Lane RB/WR- Quick guy, who like some have already speculated, will play in the slot here at MD. HE played some out of the slot last night. Had a couple catches last night. He may see some playing time as an upper classmen but look for a bigger contribution on special teams, and next year he will probably redshirt.
Moise Larose OT- Another kid I like. He played on both offense and defense last night and played well. Imposing size and physicality were his calling cards last night. Had success playing against some D1 quality ends. Could see some early playing time on a depleted Maryland offensive line, but more likely to redshirt next year.
Washington
Derrick Hayward DE- He is nowhere near the size he would need to be to play DE in the 3-4. So he either needs to put on A LOT of weight or he'll be moved to OLB. He definitely has some pass rush ability and elusiveness. But hes has some work to do to settle himself into a set position. Definitely a redshirt player next year.
Elvis Dennah S- Has the measurables to play safety at Maryland. Hes pretty big and pretty fast.He just needs to work on his football IQ. He had a couple big hits last night but also looked a little lost at times. Could end up being good but will need time to develop. Another redshirt.
SO no real game breakers last night but all in all I think we did well filling in the team with quality depth. None of these guys were feature recruits but all can contribute at next level.
