Freshman defender Dakota Edwards and sophomore midfielder Dan Metzger were both included in Tab Ramos' 24 man roster for the Under-20 US Men's National Soccer Team today. They'll be a part of a team camp and two scrimmages in Florida over the next few weeks as the U-20 USMNT prepares for next year's U-20 World Cup.
Edwards appeared in all 24 of the Terps' matches this fall - starting 23 of them - and scored his only goal of the season against UNC in the ACC tournament final. Metzger started 19 of the 22 he played, notching 3 goals and an assist while manning several positions within the midfield. Both are very deserving of this honor. Hopefully they'll live up to the challenge and make the final roster for the World Cup next summer.
I must admit I'm a bit surprised not to see freshman defender Mikey Ambrose on the roster as well, considering his past experience on US national teams and his strong rookie season (Second team All-ACC and Freshman All-ACC). He could certainly still be in play if someone struggles or goes down with an injury.
