There are teams in "our" conference that we love to hate. There are teams in 'other' conferences that we don't like either.
Many of us know what its like to fight with a sibling. But outside the family, we stick up for our sibs.
We ALL don't like dook. We root against dook in the conference....want them to finish in last place. Some of us....MOST of us....root against dook outside the conference, too. However, some of us (begrudgingly, me included) sometimes root for dook against the Big 10 opponent in the ACC/Big10 challenge.
Others root against dook, EVEN in the ACC/Big10 Challenge...then brag about it when the ACC wins (except...of course the LAST three years)!
Then there is the question of do we really care about the ACC/Big 10 challenge anymore? I would guess most of us don't care. Sure...WE want to win against NW....but the rest of the conference? Who cares. Me? I have a predated bet ...so I have to root for the ACC.... but deep down.... I don't really care. (don't get me wrong...I USED to care!)
There is also the philosophical question implied above. Is it OK to root for 'rival' conference members THAT YOU DON'T LIKE when they are supporting the conference?
