W-Basketball -Lexie Brown

Lexie Brown, a 5-foot-9 senior point guard at North Gwinnett (Ga.), is the No. 15 prospect in the 2013 class and a 2012 U18 gold medalist with USA Basketball. Brown, who is headed to Maryland for college ball, shares some of her secrets in this edition of "Meet the Prospects." Nickname: Downtown. It was given to me while playing AAU because of how many 3-pointers I would make in games. Pick a number: I wear jersey No. 4 because my dad [current Detroit Pistons assistant coach and former NBA guard Dee Brown] wore No. 4 in college [at Jacksonville]. I always want to have a reminder of my dad while I am playing the game that he taught me to love. Other than basketball, what is your favorite hobby? Dancing. I love to dance to make people laugh, I love dance classes, and I especially love to dance with my teammates. If you could go one-on-one with anyone, who would it be? Len Bias. I watched his ESPN documentary, "Without Bias," and it made me want to meet him or even see him play. He was said to have more potential than even Michael Jordan, and he was a Maryland Terp. If you had to compare your game to a current college or pro player’s, whose would it be? Kristi Toliver of the Los Angeles Sparks. Kristi is a point guard that sometimes has a scorer’s mentality. Her 3-ball is deadly. I think I shoot well, but my reputation is not even close to hers … yet. She also attended the University of Maryland, where she won a national championship, and I hope to follow her footsteps when I get on Maryland’s campus. Who is your role model? My parents. They are my biggest fans and harshest critics, but I wouldn’t be where I am right now without their tough love. What is the most important thing basketball fans should know about you? Basketball is not who I am. It is just the sport I play, but I do put my whole heart into the game whenever I am on the court. I have so many goals when it comes to basketball, but I also have other goals unrelated to basketball that I would love to achieve. What is your favorite basketball moment so far? Upsetting Norcross twice in the regular season my first year playing in Georgia [as a sophomore in 2010-11]. Hopefully, winning a state championship will be my new favorite basketball moment. The King and I: LeBron James wishes he could … shoot 3’s as well as I can.
