Throughout the recruitment of the twins (who I really wanted to come to MD), I kept coming back to fit and playing time. To me, they were not a great fit for our team. Here's why and why I think this may have occurred to them, too.
When I look at our roster as it currently stands, I see the need for a front line point guard. Or, more accurately, a point guard to spell Pe and then take over the team once he graduates. The two guard spot already has a front line player in Faust. Want to say that Faust will play the SF or wing position? Fine, but then what happens to Dez, who also seems to have the skills to start in the ACC at the 2/3. (Plus, Layman will be entering his second year in 2013.) My point being is that there are several players already on the team who are likely to compete for starting minutes at the 2/3 spot. So, I just didn't see the NEED for another 2 guard on this team. Especially one who was going to only stay on the team for a single year.
Now you could argue that the Twins are so good that they would automatically win the starting roles at the 1 and the 2. For the 1, I would probably agree with you since Pe is still something of an unknown commodity and Seth is probably not better than the PG Harrison. For the 2 or wing position, I'm not as sure. He might be the best player on the team as soon as he arrives or he might need some time to adjust to the college game. In which case, he might not get the lion's share of the minutes at the wing.
Who knows. This is just speculation. But here is where it gets interesting. From the Twins' perspective, the situation at MD might have not looked ideal. They may have looked at the roster at MD and realized that the competition for playing time -- especially at the 2/3 -- would be fairly intense with quality, experienced players already on the team.
I don't know KY(jelly)'s roster as well as I know MD's but I would be willing to bet that the path to virtually guaranteed starter positions for both brothers was more clear and obvious. Want to say that the Twins are so confident in themselves and their skills that they would not be bothered by this situation? OK. You may be right. However, given that they chose KY(jelly) over MD does leave you to wonder. If it was really just about winning, you would think a deep and experienced MD team would be very attractive.
