After the bluebloods in the ACC, Duke and UNC, there is always going to be somewhat of a drop off - not necessarily in talent, but certainly in terms of recruiting. As we all know, UMD is not going to get a top 10 recruit unless the recruit was born in this area - and that's fine. The slightly lower ranked recruits sometimes end up better (look at Vasquez) and have the bonus of staying multiple years which is precisely how championship teams are built. With all of that said, we all hoped Maryland would be the "hot" program that would begin to rise as the third best team in the acc. But, with the additions of PItt and Syracuse, teams that traditionally recruit better than us, and the way NC State is picking up, I'm beginning to worry we will drop into mediocrity in the ACC - perhaps a team that finishes 5th or 6th each year instead of 3rd or 4th and sometimes competing for the ACC championship. NC State has been on a tear on the recruiting trail. Last year we attributed this to the local players that end up simply sticking around the area in Purvis, Lewis, Warren. But let's cut the crap, Mark Gottfried can flat out recruit. NC State quietly got Anthony Cat Barber and Kyle Washington, followed by the Martin twins in 2014. They're looking at potentially three straight top 10 recruiting classes. I understand that UMD is on the right track - but are we going to be able to keep up?
