Thoughts on football recruiting

In February 2011 Dave Lominico (publisher of the Rivals site MdHigh.com) wrote a column for Terrapin Times where he listed the top 27 prospects in Maryland for 2012. With the verbal from Wes Brown yesterday, the Terps have 4 from that list and is we can get the golden prize of Stefon Diggs that would mean 20% have "stayed home". I'll provide the player list below but I'm interested to know what folks think of this success rate. I think it's respectable keeping in mind that some players aren't going to make the cut academically, some won't make the "character" cut, some won't fit in the "system" and some are just going to want to go out of state. Here's the list with the commitment school in parentheses.

1) Stefon Diggs (uncommitted)

2) Ronald Darby (Notre Dame)

3) Ryan Watson (Purdue)

4)Deontay McManus (WVU)

5) Cyrus Jones (Alalbama)

6) Brian Gaia (Penn State)

7) Mike Madaras (MD)

8) Wes Brown (MD)

9) Michael Moore (UVA - where is father is an ass't coach)

10) Brent Wilkerson (Penn Stat)

11) Ian Thomas (uncommitted)

12) Richard Webb (uncommitted no offer list on Rivals) (hard to believe for a 6'7" 325lb OL)

13) Sam Lebbie (WVU)

14) Dominic Bryan (uncommitted - no offer from MD)

15) Greg Pyke (UGA)

16) Brandon Banks (Vanderbilt)

17) Trevor Williams (WVU)

18) Josh McPhearson (uncommitted - no offer from MD)

19) Kenneth Goins (MD)

20) Devon Porchia (Pitt)

21) Da'Quan Davis (WVU)

22) Roman Braglio (MD)

23) Brady Stup (Towson)

24) Donovan Riley (VaTech)

25) Ian Fisher (James Madison)

26) Devin Mayo (uncommitted - no offer list on Rivals)
