Scout's updated 2012 Hoops rankings
Yeah, it's not Rivals, not ESPN, but Evan Daniels has his updates for the 2012 class.
Of note:
McGary drops to 20, mimicking the others;
Shaq at 39;
Layman 58;
JaKarr Sampson at 37...
I don't put much credence in these "updates" as we're still on Torian Graham and Savon Goodman's list. Those ships sailed a while ago. I think Daniels needs some help on his staff to stay on top of current lists.

Daniels and Scout
Are poor at knowing people’s lists, but their rankings are usually some of the most accurate in the biz. In fact I’d go so far as to say they’re usually the best of the Big 3. They focus less on recruitments and more on actually evaluating the players. I’d say Scout → CBS → Rivals → ESPN is the order I’d go for bball as far as accurate rankings.
I'd certainly put ESPN at the top
Telep is the most reputable name in the business, without a doubt. After that I’d go Scout, then Rivals, then CBS. (Borzello is … well, not a “real” analyst the way Meyer, Telep, and Daniels are.)
i haven't been keeping an eye on mcgary all season...
but in the game and a half that i did see he was slightly underwhelming.
-not assertive and at times almost invisible.
-looking like a bigman role player (and not really involved in the offense either surprisingly)
-no big numbers in the stat line (and the team was always ahead without him)
from my perspective, you have to consider the top 5 HS player in the nation to be an NBA lock as most in the top 25 are, even for a season. EVERY top 5 that i’ve ever seen makes you say ‘wow’ just by accident sometimes. he didn’t really show anything. and these are in season games, not AAU games. i am still VERY high on mcgary, but disappointed in what i saw.
The reason he was ranked so high during AAU
was because they were playing 4-7 games a week and he was one of the few actually hustling every game. He was ranked that high because of his motor, not because he had and elite skill set
Age
McGary is at least a year older than most guys he is going against on the AAU level. That can be a world of difference when you are in HS and a physical basketball player. I will be very interested to see how he fares against big men who are his age or older on the college level.
Don’t get me wrong I would have loved to have signed him but it sounds like he may not be the on the court program changer that many people thought he was.
But Shaq might
See the Prisbell video on that thread
Does Evan Daniels have a brother named Jack?
Becaause he seems a little behind in the times. Or maybe it’s Early Times or Evan Williams. He sounds like Old Grand Dad. For you bourbon lovers.
