Korren Kirven Interview on VaTech Blog

They asked him about the pros and cons of each of his suitors. He definitely likes Maryland's coaching staff and location. Architecture/graphic design are definitely important to him and MD's proximity to DC and Baltimore seems to be important for him in the future. He also likes that we are a top 10 school in NFL player development. He sounds very very high on us. He spent more time listing our pros than any of his other suitors (Bama, Tennessee, and VaTech). I have a good feeling about him, and he also seems like a really good kid.
I have never really been into college football recruiting but I am definitely excited for what we have coming in and maybe a couple miracles tomorrow.
Now we just have to get the RE haters to change their tone so their is mutual excitement for next season and the ones to follow.

I like this quote:
“You’ve got the D.C., Maryland, Virginia area, that’s a big thing with the media and getting exposed to a lot, internships and the job opportunities up there are real good. You’ve always got to keep that in mind. You can’t just be looking at it from a four-to-five year standpoint. In the NFL, the average career is two to three years, so you’ve got to look at it down the line too.” I feel like he’s going to come Maryland.
Him or Reader would be really big. getting both would be huge
thats not even considering possibly having Diggs
I'd consider getting Kirven and Reader
a better “get” than getting just Diggs. Having the correct lineman in a 3-4 base is huge.
I'd actually take Diggs
slightly over the package of Reader and Kirven. Not only is this offense in desperate need of an actual playmaker, but getting the most highly regarded kid out of the DMV will only continue to help in future recruiting. Diggs could equal better players for next year, whereas both Reader and Kirven are one time deals considering they are from out of this area.

Agree.
But Option 3, I want them all

Agree to an extent.
He reminds me of Tavon Austin. Lots of playmaking ability and could have a huge impact in local recruiting.
The most important thing by far for the 2013 recruiting class is going to be results on the field. Another 2 win season and not much else will matter. Reader and Kirven have the potential to contribute big and contribute early regardless of whether or not they’re local.
Luckily, we don’t have to choose.
I would rather go with defense....
A lot of the games that we lost last year were due to poor defense…if these guys can come in and help turn that around that would make us more competitive imo.
This
While reading I got a vibe Maryland was the 2nd school he was considering when he said he was 50/50 on where to go. The description for Maryland he gave for Maryland would be good enough for me to say “He’s a Terp” 9/10 except when he said I love Tech, and started gushing all over them with his last description I new that Tech was the school that won.
It's a VT blog
It’s very likely he knew exactly who he was talking to and answered accordingly. Granted he’s from VT territory, so I myself would put VT ahead as well, but I don’t think that based upon what he said. Just under an hour ago JC Shurburtt (I think that’s his name, don’t kill me if it isn’t) posted on twitter that he’s hearing Alabama for Kirven.

Terps have the advantage
No way Beamer is going to coach another 4 years. Retirement is in his near future, He keeps looking older and older every time I see him.
Kirven to Alabama according to Mike Ferrell (what hes hearing)

Not surprising
I think the chance to play in Saban’s defense, combined with how many defensive linemen he is sending to the NFL is a big draw. They don’t have architecture as a major, but he can major in graphic design (2nd choice) and minor in architecture (1st choice).
Does not seem to make sense to me.
Alabama has 5 DL commits per ESPN, 2 of which are 4*, the other’s are 3*, depending on what service you look at. Appears to be a large DL recruiting class. Maybe just wishful thinking….
