What's the possibility of 8-8 in the ACC?
Terps are sitting at 3-3 after today's win against Virginia Tech. Let's assume losses at Duke, North Carolina and Virginia plus a loss at home to UNC are givens. Boston College and Miami at home should be wins. That adds up to 5 - 7. This means MD would have to go 3-1 in the remaining four games. This would mean beating Virginia at home and stealing two road wins at Miami, Clemson, or Georgia Tech or winning all three road games allowing a home loss to UVA. Out of the question? Tough but do-able? Are you kidding, FHFAN? You might know field hockey but you don't know basketball. Terps are rockin' 9 - 7. Your thoughts?

Stranger things have happened, but I certainly don't expect it
6-10 is much more likely, but it could be even worse than that. Truth is that no game is guaranteed this year. I think Maryland is better than GT, BC and quite possibly Miami as well, and if you ascribe to the “baskets are the same height” theory then those are four wins right there to get to seven wins; an upset over Clemson or one of the remaining five against the elites is possible. But it’s just as likely that we drop a game to GT or BC or Miami that we probably shouldn’t, and fail to take advantage of other opportunities.
The only thing giving me hope is that we have no bad losses so far. But I’d be very pleasantly surprised by 8-8 and I don’t think we should be expecting it as a fanbase.
hmmmm
we have no bad losses so far
How long has it been since we’ve been able to say that?

Ben, I'm sticking with 4-12
and the rest are all pleasant surprises. I do think they’ll get more than 4 now, so I’m feeling good. More importantly, guys are improving for next season.

I agree and stick with my pre-season prediction of 6-10
We are not playing smart BBall this year. It will bite us many more games this season.

I don't expect it either, Ben
I mean the Terps were 7-9 last year with JW. I wanted to get a feel for what the rest of the posters are thinking. At this point, I’d be disappointed with bballpurist’s 4-12 because I think we should have the 2 home wins I noted in my initial post. At this point I think 6 wins is a reasonable expectation coming from 1 road win or an upset of UVA at home to close the regular season. I agree somewhat with mdmadness below. I think the game Tuesday could be a bellwether. If the Terps can pull that off, it could be a springboard boosting their confidence and giving them the belief that they can win on the road. That might lead to 7-9. If this group gets to 8-8, Turgeon should be COTY in the ACC.
correct - at this point 4-12 would be disappointing to me too
I just want to come out of this season feeling like the guys got better, and feel good about an ACC record above 4 wins. I see the home games vs. BC and Miami as wins we need for holding home court. The rest are either tough road games, tough opponents – basically crap shoots depending upon our play and improvement and game circumstances.

@Miami is a Bellwether Game
We haven’t beaten a team on their court this season. If this goes on any longer, I think it might get into our players’ heads (if it hasn’t already). If we lose, and then lose to UNC, we’ll be 3-5 and it might be a struggle to pull it together with @Duke looming two games later. All that said, we did play a solid, solid game against Va Tech after losing three in a row… So maybe our players do have the resolve to just keep going.
If we win, though, I think we have a chance to really take off. I’d love to see what we can do (@ home and on a 2-game winning streak) against UNC. Yeah, I disagree that it’s an auto-loss.
I don’t want to get ahead of myself, though, so I’ll stop there.
Watch out!!!
I read that she was a wild fire back in the day….SO! Watch out, she might through that snapper on YOU! Do you have a strong back? LOL

I think they'll end up 7-9 in ACC regular season
The optimist in me is thinking 8-8 with a nice win at home against VA… but realistically, I think this is what will happen:
L at Miami
L vs. NORTH CAROLINA
W at Clemson
L at Duke
W vs. BOSTON COLLEGE
L at Virginia
W vs. MIAMI
W at Georgia Tech
L at North Carolina
L vs. VIRGINIA
Looks about right!
And I am fine with that…. THIS YEAR. I just want us to not get blown out of games and play with dignity to build on next year.

fine
BUT…
Clemson is tough for us to beat at home, even in good seasons, GTech will be tough on the road, but by the end of the season hopefully we’ll be at a point to do it. That’s why I’m cautiously optimistic and holding back

Clemson on the road will be a very tough win
Totally agree about Clemson… but I think after 2 losses to Miami and NC, MD will really show up with a focus and determination to pull it off.
With the progress we are seeing game to game, I think they should also be able to pull off a win at GT.
Why are we going to lose to Miami on Wednesday?
Have some optimism! MD was competitive in losses against two of the best three teams in the ACC. They also lost a tight game @ NC St, but that was their first conference game of the season, when the team was still adjusting to the additions of Pe’ and Len. Yes, our three ACC wins have come against teams with a combined 4 ACC wins. But I don’t think it’s fair to say that this fact makes us a lower-half ACC team. Simply, we just don’t know how we’re going to fare against teams like Virginia, Clemson, and Miami.
In conference and at home, Miami has lost to NC St and squeaked out a win against Clemson. OOC and at home, Miami needed 2 OTs to beat FAU at home. Needless to say, MD is a much better team than the 9-12 Owls. I actually like our chances @ Miami.
Man I hope I am wrong! :)
ACC road games are always a battle, and I’m a little worried about Miami’s “bigs”
Holding back.....
Holding back for thirty forty years, all that pressure building up and whoooo….. make your head blow off!!!!!

6-10
7-9 if we start getting consistent performance from anyone other than Stogs and better FT shooting. I give 8-8 about a 25-30% chance.
Fear the Turgle!
8-8 and one good win gives us a 50-50 shot at the NCAA tourney.
Fear the Turgle!
We'd probably need at least 2 wins in the ACC Tourney as well
To get into the NCAA Tourney with an 8-8 record.
Agree...
8-8 with two ACC tourney wins gets us to the dance. And that’s a long shot at best right now.
We Can Do It.......

Previous plus 2 wins in ACC Tourney puts us over the top.
Fear the Turgle!
Oh yeah!.........duh!!!
Forgot about the tourney wins. You so smarrrt! Need at least twenty to make a splash, right?

20 and a signature win
VT was running 21-22 with no good wins and failing to get in
According to Sports Illustrated,
we have no good wins. The article states that Louisville’s loss to ND and Colorado’s loss to MD may have been bad ones. Hopefully Glockner reconsiders in his next Bubble Watch.
At this point, we have to root for ND and Colorado the rest of the way. In a lousy Pac-12, though, Colorado would have to make a serious run for that W to hold some weight.
9-7
Beat Uva both games, they are depleted.

Wow... I sure hope you are right :)
I’d love to sweep UVA.
