ITS ABOUT TIME... Recruiting Update *New Offers

I have been waiting for MD to do this for 3 months. This kid is going to be a stud and he is a local product. This morning Stanford Robinson was offered a scholarship from Turge. This has been confirmed by Evan Daniels & Alex Kline. ... Alex actually reported it before Daniels. Anyway I did a post on Robinson a few months back but he is a little refresher.

ESPN Eval: 4 Star # 47 overall. The # 13 SG. He is from Fairfax VA and plays for Paul VI.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/103620/stanford-robinson

Turge and Co watched him last night and offered him this morning. They have been involved with him for the past few months but finally pulled the trigger. This is further evidence that the twins are not a lock by any means.

My guess... we end up with Robinson and Raysheed Jordan. While its not landing 2 top 10 players, I am not going to be SAD AT ALL by landing the number 35 and 47 players in the nation.

Jordan:

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/141635/rysheed-jordan

Bmore sun did an article on Jordan this week after the Temple game:

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/recruiting-blog/bal-insidemdsports-terps-in-the-mix-with-philly-point-guard-rysheed-jordan-20120125,0,1508009.story

think it was a nice game. I think Maryland just needs a few guards. They talked to me about that,” said Jordan, a highly sought 6-4, 185-pound lead guard from Vaux Roberts High in Philadelphia.

That game wasn’t his only interaction with Maryland this weekend; Terps coach Mark Turgeon stayed in town to watch Jordan’s game that night, and he didn’t disappoint, scoring 30 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

Man, we haven't had a player like him in a while from Philly," Kamal Yard, Jordan's AAU coach, told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "One of the things that makes him unique is his following. He has what you call a 'hood pass' … He can go into any neighborhood and feel at home, because of his game. That's why he's called the Prince of North Philly."

Prince of North Philly....... #SWAGGGGGGGGGG

Jordan is SOOOOOOOOO underrated

top 20 player imo.

Know next to nothing about Robinson.

Seems only ESPN isn't on the Jordan train actually

Scout has him as a 5* and #24 overall and the #6 PG

Rivals has him as a 4* and #25 overall and the #5 PG

247Sports has him as a 5* and #21 overall and the #1 Combo guard, so basically a score first PG.

Anyway Jordan would be a huge get.

Yea we did

Must be pretty good to offer so early. To far away for me personally to follow, but I love that turge and co are out and about

@ Maryland1206 ,Yes

Big kid out of New Hampshire I think. Charlottte , I am with you and others when it comes to all the offers on the guards. Twins more then likely not sending promising vibes to the staff. It is what it is, I like the sound of this kid Jordan, gonna be tough to get him away from Philly, fingers crossed… I thought Robinson was a Georgetown lean??

Call me an optimist,

but I don’t think we’re out of the twins’ picture by any stretch. To my knowledge we’ve heard absolutely nothing directly from the twins or Papa Harrison. We’re making an assumption based on the staff’s recruiting efforts.

Turge, I believe, said at one point you can never have enough shooters. The interest Robinson could be 1) you HAVE to offer a quality local kid; 2) you can never have enough good shooters (this year’s team should prove that); and 3) IF the twins fall through, there are back-up plans in place.

Assuming Jordan is viewed as a combo guard – and I know nothing about him as a shooter; ESPN calls him more of a slasher – the same points apply.

Twins

there has been no real updates on the twins during the basketball season, as they both stated and there father did that they would focus on recruiting when the season was over. It has been pretty silent since the reports coming out that it was a two school race between UMD and Kentucky.

These offers won’t deter them at all, because they both rise up against competition. They don’t have any fear of someone beating them out for playing time

Exactly.....

and we are well due a BREAK or TWO (brothers).

Good thing

He didn’t get fired. 2 game suspension and some other internal punishments.

by Charlotte NC Terp on Jan 28, 2012 1:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I don't think they fire him

Just some disciplinary action. Suspended with no pay type of thing. We need him to reel in local DC talent, that is why he was brought in.

Both these kids look really good,

especially of the Twins are seeming less and less realistic. Are they both PGs though or is Robinson more of a SG? (they both seem like combo guards which I guess is what is most common today)

by Harrison Linder on Jan 28, 2012 12:29 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Great post

Both kids look/sound good to me.

Go Terps!

Re: the twins

People keep using the phrasing “the Twins aren’t a lock.” Of course not and they never have been. But no one thinks that. I mean, I’m probably the most bullish person on the twins in these parts, and I’m not saying we’ll get them, only that we have as good a chance as anyone else. This isn’t an uphill battle, except in the sense that there’s competition for them. But that’s true for every recruit. Trust me – every school recruiting the Harrisons has done just as much due diligence as we have. Kentucky, for example, hasn’t offered as many others (though they offered Kasey Hill) but that’s because Cal knows he doesn’t have to. He’s still putting in work with guys like Cat Barber and he knows he’ll still be able to offer them late and instantly become the favorite. We can’t do that, so we’re giving out offers now, when we have to. I’m not saying we’ll get the twins, again, but there’s no reason to write them off because we’re looking at others. It’s a balancing act.

Anyway, Stan is supposed to be pretty good, but I haven’t really kept up on him. Looks and sounds primarily like a slasher, which wouldn’t be my preference because we already have those, but I haven’t seen enough of him to have any idea. That said, the idea of getting a guy named “Stanford Robinson” who looks like this is too much to pass up.

Oh, and I really like Sheed – big point guard, though might be a bit much of a combo from what I’ve heard – but I don’t think we’d have any better chance with him than we would with the Twins.

if two top 50 guards are our plan B

then we are headed in the right direction. and I don’t see why just b/c a team lands the twins you won’t commit to that school. they are likely one and done and it’s not like you’d be on the bench the entire time. if you can play you’ll find the court . but if the “worst” that we do is these two guys then hello sweet 16 for a couple years!

by Ttown Funkster on Jan 28, 2012 1:06 PM EST up reply actions

Thx Charlotte

The other day, I saw that Jordan had a quadruple double too. Plenty of good players out there. I still think the twins will come to UMD, but the contingency plans are in place.

Options

Everyone needs to learn that you need to offer many players so you can have options. I mean everyone would love to have the Twins, but in reality we have a shot at them, but no one like Ben mentioned is a lock.

I think we take any top 50 player that wants to come. If the twins are going to consider Kentucky then they will be competing vs. top 50 talent all day. So if Stan or Sheed commit then the twins should be afraid of them committing.

I take whoever wants to come here.

by El Goodd Terps13 on Jan 28, 2012 2:53 PM EST reply actions

I dont think the twins will be one and done if they come here

only because they won’t both come in as starters(unless Stoglin leaves early, even then with Pe’ Faust it would be tough to see them both start. And I would think they’d both go pro at the same time

Great post, Swag!

Love to hear about possible pipelines from powerhouses. Quick question, though…How do you pronounce Dejion. Is it like Deion Sanders, or like Dijon mustard?? I hope it’s the mustard, any kid named after spicy mustard, you know they are drippin with swag!!!

Another couple questions, who is the main recruiter for the Terps up in MA? When/where is your combine in July, and is it open to the public? Does MD recruit Ohio?

by 1 proud terp on Jan 29, 2012 8:58 AM EST up reply actions

That's what I was hoping!!

You can have your Jazzmar Clax…I’ll take my Deijon “Hot Mustard” Evans!!

MCDONOUGH RAM N’TAYE ROGERS 6-6 300+ was at my combine in greenbelt yesterday .He is the real deal . Derwin Gray was not there but will be at my event. I go to speak to Jalen Tabor tonight at Cover 1 tryouts.

Yep, great info.

What’s your opinion of Locks so far, does his name come up a bunch at these type events? Also, what’s the word about B. Stewart out there? Do the kids know who he is yet? Be sure you tell J. Tabor about how Stewart groomed a young Terrance Newman into a multi-pro bowl player.

UMD needs to get in on Ohio, especially since we’re gonna be in the Big Ten someday, lol.

awesome news

I hope a solid pipeline forms.

A little off topic, but...

…saw Daquan Cook (St. Frances) play last night. He signed with UNLV, but was interested in UMD. Was not terribly impressed. He shows good quickness, had some nice moves to the hoop, finished well and was the class of his team, but the competition was suspect (St. Maria Goretti in Hagerstown). Didn’t seem to have great vision or court awareness, IMO.

It seems to me....

that there are untouchables out there and if we say anything, we are crybabies and think there’s a conspiracy against us and well………… the Ravens too if you think about it. But lets let that topic slip away for a rainy day.

Not worthy of a fanpots

I found these on youtube and I haven’t seen them anywhere else. If anyone wanted to get a better feel for Shaq, Jake and Seth, here’s some interviews with them after they’ve signed and in Shaq’s case, the week before.
