Nike's new "platinum" uni's targeting UA/MD?

Maybe not all that worthy of a Fan Post, but I know it got me a little hyped. Nike is coming out with a new "platinum" uniform for their most recent basketball affiliates to win championships for both men and women.

Star-divide

As you can see at the bottom of the article, the teams will be wearing them as a one time thing this season. Interestingly enough, all of the opponents represent either an Adidas or Under Armour school. Wouldn't you know it that they are targeting the most quintessential Under Armour school (Maryland) with two of the matchups. Both Duke and UNC will be wearing them against us when we visit their schools later this season.

Both have other matchups they could wear them in if they weren't going to wear them against a Nike school. They both face NC State at home, and UNC has Georgia Tech at home (Ridell, still... really?). Now I'm not complaining, I actually think it's cool. Not that I or anyone else should need more motivation to beat Duke or UNC other than for the sake that they are Duke and UNC, but it definitely fires me up a little more.

Nike isn't in trouble of losing the top spot obviously, not yet, but it's clear they are feeling the heat from Under Armour and I couldn't be happier. I can't wait for our team to not only represent our school, but those who represent our school as well. Let's get this win tonight for Gary, and let's beat them again down in Durham for UA.

Think these uniforms are pretty awful and completely uninspired.

They all look exactly the same. What’s the point? Drab prison grey with neon colors, it’s just weird.

A lot of my first run Nike Elite series (for Final Four teams +) swag is still in good shape

One irony in all of this (btw, it’s not the “most recent” schools to win championships – Zona – 1997, Kentucky 1998 – ba ha ha ha UK fans!):

“The teams selected have won NCAA titles wearing Nike gear: the Arizona, UConn, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina and Syracuse men and the Baylor and UConn women.”

Then MD could have been selected – hah!

Lol they aren't targeting Maryland

The Nike jerseys are being released against Adidas and Under Armour schools. UCONN will debut them when they play Notre Dame(Adidas), Kentucky will wear them against Tennessee(Adidas) Baylor against Texas A&M(Adidas), Duke will wear them against Maryland’s men, UNC will wear them against Maryland’s women, and Florida will wear them against Tennessee.

Highlights I saw from another SB blog regarding these uni's

“What’s awful is that UK, UNC, and duke could all be on the court at the same time and you couldn’t tell the difference”

“These look like prison league jerseys. Ironically….or not ironically…these are being directly targeted at future felons, err, customers”

“If cuse and fl played each other in these unis, how could anyone tell them apart?”

“You could wipe your car down with these and they’d look the same!”
(Response: “I’d rather wipe my ass with these”)

Bring on the MD Pride basketball jerseys, I say
