Rerun: A Gary Williams Video Tribute
This post was originally compiled by Ben G. shortly after Gary retired. But this is the Gary game, Lefty Driesell be damned (four words I never thought I'd say in that order, given that Lefty is actually my favorite coach in history), so it's a great time to bring it back up.
Try to make it through the whole thing without crying.

I think the room is getting a little dusty...
"I wear tinted visor not to trick other players, but so hot girls in stands don't see me looking at them" - Alex Ovechkin
The song/lyrics for first one
are perfect!
“And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams”
Totally Teared Up....
Tonight is going to be awesome!

I remember being a kid
watching the 2002 National Championship…what an unbelievable team. For Gary to out-duel all the “big name” coaches and programs and bring a championship home to MD was such an incredible accomplishment. I distinctly remember that night…and leading my Dad, Brother, and Brother-in-law as we climbed a kitchen chair and cut down the net from the Nerf hoop that hung on our door, putting a piece of twine in each of our UMD hats as Juan and Co. were doing the same on our TV…I’ve never felt so crazy in my fandom of Maryland, and yet proud, as that moment! Congrats Gary, it’s very well deserved!

i just teared up watching it with my daughters. It should be a great night tonight.
TerpFan88- I was at the game, but your memory sound pretty awesome.
Go Terps!
Yeah, it's something
I’ll definitely never forget bobbie. That’s so cool you got to be there in person to see the Terps win the National Championship…what a game, and achievement, to witness!
Best piece from any of the videos
After winning the game, they show Baxter’s mom and she is crying. Nance says, “All her son ever wanted was to wear that uniform, and now he wears it for the last time as a CHAMPION!”
Gary Williams is embodied by the Fist Pump.
Gary Williams inherited a program that was in shambles and yet he knowingly accepted the job. He single-handedly revived a dying program through blood, sweat, and tears. He lured guys who never gave up, guys who were always underdogs. During the Late 90’s, this program was insane and it’s still one of the most lucrative programs in the nation, just look at all of our facilities. The Comcast Center will always be the house that Gary Built. He’s also exposed this entire University to the entire nation. What does it mean to be a Terp? it means to never give up, to always work hard, and last, but not least, you can always take down the big dogs even when you’re the underdog. With all that being said, I thank Gary for dedicating more than 20 years of his life to this University. This is one of those times where it’s acceptable to shed a tear. We are Garyland!
