Football Recruiting Updates
Well after being extremely depressed after a 2-10 Terps season only to have my heart ripped out last night by Lee Evans and Billy Cantkick...I mean Cundiff, I have decided to hopefully bring in some good news. I was scanning the sites and it looks like several top Terp targets are going to be announcing in February.
Well with Goldman and Darby all but gone, that leaves Diggs as the highest ranked target left. Diggs in my opinion has been off the board for the Terps when he made his first list cut, but many think we have a chance with Locks on board. Diggs has decided that he will announce Feb. 10th, right after signing day. I would say he is going to commit to Florida. He seems to have always like the Gators.
The second biggest guy left on the board is Korren Kirven out of VA. The bad news here is that Maryland is up against the stiffest of competition. Kirven just visited Alabama and was hosted by Cyrus K. of all players. I say Maryland has a shot, but given we lost ten games and Alabama is the reigning National Champs, I would venture to say we will lose out on him as well. He will be announcing on National Signing Day.
I hope this sheds some light on these remaining top targets, I wish I could be more hopeful, but all signs are not pointing to the Terps. Hopefully Locks can pull off some more magic.

What's Cassell been up to?
Did he take a visit to Uconn? Heard they were on him.

He tweeted that they offered him
He has been tweeting a lot with Faust. Or at least he was prior to the fsu game.

A random baylor forum
they made a twins recruitment post and two guys said they believe they were Maryland bound. Also they mentioned that Shaq(who was in the highlight video with the Twins) was a gorilla in the post with long arms. Good I guess.
Wonder what their basis is

Also DJ Reader
took his OV to Clemson last week, and as we know he is down to Clemson and MD. This week Clemson has an in-home with him Thursday and then Maryland has an in home after that. So he is deciding soon and apparently we get to meet with him last.

Looking for prospects visiting Wed for the game and that came up. I’ll see if anything else does too.
A good architecture program will make a big difference to Kirven
Per him.
so out of his final 4: Alabama, VaTech, Maryland, and Tenn"
How is ours? I know Alabama doesn’t even have an architecture program and he was quoted saying that on his Alabama visit.
Also this could be good or bad but he singled us out.
I’m making a decision on signing day. It’s down to those three and Maryland. It’s probably going to come down to stuff like which schools carry what I want to major in, which is either architecture or graphic design. Football is a big factor with the coaches and playing time a little bit, too. There’s a lot of stuff that factors into it, but mostly where I feel the most comfortable and where I feel I can succeed and excel.
Also mentioned playing time. We can give that. Those other SEC schools and VaTech can’t
Whole article, and I must admit that just looking over free 247 articles makes me want to subscribe since they are useful most of the time.

Depends on the ranking you're using
But VaTech probably has UMD beat for architecture. But it’s hard to beat the proximity to DC for summer jobs/internships.
And if a football player can do both football practice and architecture studio… more power to them. Sounds insane though.
I'm going off my friends' experience as ARCH undergrads at MD
Once studio started up, we never saw them again. Quite sad really. I heard stories of one student who, upon being kicked out of his apartment and finding himself homeless, set up a hammock under his studio desk and just slept there for the semester. He was already spending all of his time there anyways, so why not!

Once upon a time I was looking at being an architecture major at MD
It’s no walk in the park either. It’s basically a full time job. I took one of the first drawing classes and I was spending at least 10 hours a week on my weekly drawing projects. I can’t imagine what the advanced classes demand.

As a recent architecture grad
I can say we have a respectable program. Va Tech however is annually ranked in the top 5 in the nation (MD in comparison is not usually ranked at all). The main difference that matters to us is the type of program. VaTech is a 5 year program which is very intense starting from freshman year.
UMD on the other hand is 4 yrs of undergrad plus an additional 2 years at a grad school (doesnt have to be at UMD). This is much more of a typical college experience because the intense studio environment doesnt start until junior year. This would probably be one of our biggest selling points.

isn't VT's program a 5 year Master's program where you graduate with a mater's degree
with no option for a Bachelor’s. It is very intense… I can’t imagine you could do both Football and ARCH. i was in UMD ARCH program for freshmen year and it is not that demanding in the first year.
Do you know
If ‘studio’ is something that’s common across architecture schools, or is that something unique to UMD? I was talking to an architecture major at UNLV, and she had no idea what studio is.
I don't think it is UMD unique
other schools may call it something different, but I’m not sure how an architecture major gets away with no studio time.
If he is serious about architecture though I think you can eliminate both SEC Schools, and Va Tech for that matter. SEC Schools are football universities, I’m not sure how you major in something as intensive as architecture and play football at the same time there. I’d eliminate Va Tech based on the statements above at how demanding there school is even though it is ranked top 5.
My guess is that he’ll go graphic design if he wants to play football, not saying it is an easier major but it is far less demanding than architecture would be.
We need to send him the MD Solar Decathlon winning link
Architecture school played a big part.

I do know that DJ Reader's is
@RavidMFNdeader
VA. Tech
Well thanks guys for hammering out the debate on who has a better Architecture School/Degree. Any recruiting news you want to contribute, that would be great. Why don’t you draw me up a plan of how Maryland will beat Duke on Wednesday.

Easy
Stoglin goes beast mode. Len has to double his average number of rebounds and get the Plumlees in foul trouble as well as score at least 10. Howard needs a 4:1 A:TO ratio. Padgett needs to get every possible offensive rebound and put back. Mosely needs at least 3 3s. And Faust needs to be great on defense, and get at least 12 points, preferably while causing some dookies to get into foul trouble.
No sweat.
Football
Nice Basketball prediction which has everything to do with football recruiting.

My predictions ...
*Diggs goes to Auburn
*Kirven goes to Va Tech
*Reader goes to Clemson
*We fill our class with guys none of us are talking about right now, but hopefully some of them are 3-star types who can help us, especially on the defensive front. Maybe we get lucky and snag a couple de-commits from elsewhere thanks to locks’ influence. Schools like the U, Penn State and Ohio State could all have some NCAA difficulties coming down the pipe and so maybe Locks or Gattuso can flip some guys who they already had relationships with.
Yeah, you're probably right.
I’m starting to get excited about the 2013 recruits, though.
Like Taivon Jacobs, younger brother of new terp Levern Jacobs.
SPEED!
So what 40 time does that translate too?
Sorry I only work on the football scale so I’m unfamiliar with track times.
If we do not land either of the DT’s (Reeder or Kirven) then we need to go to plan “B” for next year. As I recall both Nate Clarke and Zeller played DT in high school and were originally recruited for either side of the line. May want to look at one of these two as nose tackles.
Or Peter White
Since he can’t seem to keep the weight off in the first place
