Give the women some love.

Everyone has the right to their opinion when it comes to which sports they prefer to discuss, and there is no lack for people on this board who have expressed their opinion on women's basketball. I respect that opinion, but I would like the opportunity to express my point of view.

The women's game is slower, no doubt. There are very few - if any - dunks in the women's game, and it's played almost exclusively below the rim. If that means it's not exciting enough for you to follow, I'm fine with that. But that doesn't mean the women don't work as hard to improve as the men. The effort they put into it is deserving of respect, not bashing.

Furthermore, while the football team certainly didn't pack the house this year, and the basketball team may or may not not get invited to a post-season tournament, the bills still need to be paid. The women will likely never play before a packed Comcast Center house, but the better they do, the more money they contribute to the already depleted coffers. I have no idea what their share of a first or second-round NCAA game would be. I'll venture to guess, though, that a trip to the Final Four - which is very doable - would be a welcome contribution to the athletic department bank account.

From last years Terps-Duke game

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP)—Maryland fans learn at an early age how important it is to beat Duke.

When Maryland coach Brenda Frese woke up Thursday morning, she asked one of her 3-year-old twins, "Do you know what today is?"

Frese expected her son to answer, "It’s my birthday."

Instead, Tyler said, "You play Duke?"

When I was at CP, we had 14,500 for Maryland-Virginia @ Cole, so it can be done

Actually,

we’ve had 2 Comcast sellouts for Women’s basketball (both in 2007 vs UNC & Duke), a near sellout crowd of 17,243 fpr a 2005 game agains Duke and have been over 16,000 at Comcast 3 other times. The hurdle this year is that almost all our games have been on weeknights and some have been 8:30pm starts. Duke is on a Sunday afternoon and UNC is a Friday night. We also have Miami on a Sunday afternoon and though they are not a “rival” game, they are the defending league champs and certainly a top 3 ACC team this season. This is not to imply that only these games are deserving of large crowds but we all know what the reality is.

And for those who are not sure, they should take a look at Tianna Hawkins game lasty night – a school single game record of 24 boards in an absurdly low 27 minutes of play. The spin move that Anjale Barrett made on a breakaway in the first half was as good as any you’ll see at any level of play as was the reverse layup that Alyssa Thomas made to ttie the game at Chapel Hill driving the baseline and making a right handed layup (she’s a lefty) to tie the game at the buzzer.

Great post.

There’s going to be two huge games at Comcast in February – Feb. 12 they play Miami, and will be looking to avenge their loss at Miami a week ago. Then a week later, Feb. 19 they play Duke. No explanation needed on that, I’ll just mention that Duke is the #5 team right now.

Both of those games are going to be on ESPN2. Comcast will be rocking, and the more fans the better. Both those games should be critical in deciding the ACC Regular Season Champ. Also, on Feb. 24 they play UNC on Senior Day, and who doesn’t love watching us beat UNC??

Women bb Haters.....

If you think that they are Bush League and are slight on skills, try playing them some day. I try to follow all Championship caliber Terp teams…Well!….. Except Field Hockey.

It's a confusing sport I admit bu

FH is almost a dynasty. You have to get on it. The stick skills of some of these women is amazing.
