Wooden Award - Andy Katz
Andy Katz's analysis of Wooden Award Candidates (basically the Heisman of college basketball).
Stoglin was not a Mid-season finalist, but is listed as a player that could possibly make a push considering how wide open of a race it is at this point. I'm not sure why they have finalists already if the list does not eliminate anyone from consideration, must just be for conversation purposes.
Any chance works his way into legitimate consideration?

The only chance
Stogs works his way into consideration is if MD somehow finishes in the top three of the ACC, and he ends up averaging 24-25 ppg. He’d also have to have some HUGE games on a national stage, like the home/road games vs. Duke and UNC (HUGE= 35-40 points + MD win).
In my opinion (which is most certainly biased)...
If we make the NCAA tourney, Stoglin should be first team All-American and in strong contention for the Wooden. In order for us to make the tourney, he’ll have to drop 30+ probably at least 3 or 4 times in ACC play so that’s where the connection comes. However, that is not likely to happen so I think Andy Katz’s assessment is fair. I do think he deserves to be in the 25 though.
The thing is
Stogs is extremely one dimensional. He can score, and that’s about it. Because of that, he won’t make the All-American teams because the other top guards can actually guard
Jimmer was an All American im pretty sure

He also scored 52 on the road against the best team they played all year
And averaged like 30 ppg. At least.
Stoglin does deserve to be in the top 25
In order for his to still be in the conversation in march he will have to play like Greivis Vasquez did in 2010 come ACC time. Also we will have to be 12-4 minimum b/c of the weak ACC. It’s not impossible but highly unlikely.
Stogs and Len will have to flip a coin for the Wooden award
next year.

it'd be really really hard...
but he could do it with the scoring upped a little and improving on his defensive game in the steals category and rebounding. he averages 3.5 rebounds now which isn’t bad, but could be better. his less than half a steal a game is his achilles though.
juan did it. maybe next year.
