ESPN, has confirmed that Maryland has announced the hiring of Brian Stewart as the New Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach for 2012. There was no terms mentioned, but I hope KA has learned from the Crowton/Bradford contracts.
This will make the third different defensive scheme that Maryland has put in over the last three seasons. This causes players to have a learning curve and results may take longer then most the fan base would like in terms of statistics. I know Maryland honeslty doesn't need to do that much better to be better statistically then last year's 2-10 campaign on the defensive side.
The link also gives you some more detail on Houston's improvement and there impressive stats from last year's UH team on defense. There are several nice stats, but I think the numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt, since the offense was pretty stout last year at Houston and most teams had to throw the ball a ton, which gives the defense many more opportunites for turnovers.

I have been critical on the hire of Stewart, but I will hold out on furthering criticizing him until the season begins and there is actual game experience to base my comments off of. Not sure how good he will be as a recruiter, but having to relatively young African American Coordinators can only help our cause relating to the young student athletes in the DMV. I think Locks could be purple and still get anyone to commit.
