ACC Craziness

UNC losing to Florida State by 30? Come on. Things are definitely not going as expected so far in this ACC season. Question is, does this mean that anything can happen and that Maryland can play with anyone? Should we expect to see a few more wins than we were expecting? Or does this mean that the rest of the ACC is even better than we thought, and therefore we should expect to see a few more losses?

If we keep on playing defense

and start hitting free throws, this team can do anything

by MurlandTerps on Jan 14, 2012 4:02 PM EST reply actions

UNC left the court early!!

HAHAHAHAHA… I hope that’s not the score when they play UMD though, pretty sure we’d be on the wrong side of it.

Scary thing is that FSU isn't even that good

They lost to Clemson by 20. Then Clemson lost to BC. And BC lost to Holy Cross by 20.

Holy Cross > UNC.

BC also lost to Rhode Island

And Rhode Island’s currently at 256 in KenPom.

My head hurts

FSU lost to Clemson, Clemson lost to BC, BC lost to UNC, UNC lost to FSU…..it’s like that never ending staircase…

Des

Best part of the game was Desmond Hubert walking off last with a somber look on his face. So glad we didn’t get him. Len >>>>>>>> Hubert.

Another great one by our buddy Roy

I dont care home many national titles each has. Gary will always be better than Roy. Roy only won because of superior talent. Never saw him take a team with lesser players and coach them to greatness. Have seen countless examples of underperforming though. Keep getting all the five stars and winning less than you should Roy.

UNC Ranking and FSU Letdown?

1. What do you guys think UNC should be ranked after getting thumped? I mean its not like they lost a close one. Would like to hear what everyone thinks is fair.
2. This has to be good for MD to catch FSU on Tuesday. I mean unless this is some ultimate turning point in their season and they go on a tear, I think its much more likely they have a letdown game after the big win. What do you guys thinks?

BTW I think UNC will drop down to like 10 or so, but should drop down to like 15 or 16th in the rankings. This loss just looks THAT bad.

and they dropped 3 spots…

Lets gooo Maryland

by discuit on Jan 14, 2012 5:43 PM EST up reply actions

It was in Philly

Technically a neutral site but it was basically a home game.

by aholla30 on Jan 14, 2012 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

WTF Now BC is about to have 2 wins in the ACC

Up 5 over Virginia Tech with under a minute to play

by chitsweire on Jan 14, 2012 5:03 PM EST reply actions

BC beat Virginia Tech by two points

BC had 11 point lead and won by two. BC is as good as any of the mid majors we beat.
Virginia Tech was playing without Erick Green. Marquis Rankin didn’t play well as his backup. Things will be interesting in ACC this year. Can’t believe FSU beat UNC by 30.

WTF.

This is ludicrous. BC is now 2-1 in the ACC. Same BC that lost to Rhode Island, BU and Holy Cross. What the hell.

I think this helps us

Even with their recent losses, UNC and Duke are obvious locks for the tourney. UVA looks like theyll get in too as long as they play like they have been. Besides those three teams, the rest of the ACC is probably fighting for 2-3 spots.

If there are a ton of teams around 8-8, 9-7, the things that will separate teams from the rest are bad losses, good wins and the eye test. We will almost assuredly be playing our best basketball at the end of the year, when the eye test comes most into play.

We also have no bad losses. A team like BC or GT is not going to get in the tourney unless they wins 10 games in ACC play with their bad losses. The same could be said for FSU. So, when lower-level ACC teams beat teams like VT, NCST, etc., it definitely helps us because those are the teams, in my mind, that we are fighting for berths with.

Concerning good wins, the home games against Duke and UNC now look winnable.

In my opinion, 9-7 in the ACC with a win the ACC tourney gets us in as long as two of those wins come against Duke, UNC or UVA.

by aholla30 on Jan 14, 2012 6:07 PM EST reply actions

I think we might need 10-6 to get in,

unless we can win in Philly against Temple. We have two respectable wins against Colorado and Notre Dame, but we’ll see how those hold up down the road. Out of Duke, UVA, UNC (all x2), Temple and FSU, I think we need 3-4 wins minimum with one over UNC/Duke.

For a team like GT, already with 7 non-conference losses, it’ll probably take at least 11/12 wins, and I really think BC might need to go 16-0 to compensate for their horrendous non-conference performance.

As effed up as the ACC has been so far this season,

the teams that simply meet expectations will have a leg up.

by curterp on Jan 14, 2012 6:45 PM EST reply actions

The NCAA will take notice that

we went a month without two starters. They do give those bubble teams the edge over bubble teams that have had there starting 5 all year.
