Jerami Grant Down to Maryland and Rutgers, Deciding Soon?

I'm nearing exhaustion at this point - the first time I wrote the headline it said "Jerami Layman" - but the stuff just keeps coming. We knew Jerami Grant was considering Maryland again, that he was likely to decide soon, and that he was probably going to be on campus for the Maryland-Miami opener.

But then the Washington Post came out with this a few hours before the game:

DeMatha forward Jerami Grant, who burst onto the national landscape with a strong spring season with his club team, is expected to announce his college choice this week, possibly Tuesday, and is believed to have narrowed his choices to Maryland and Rutgers.

"I don't think he is going to make any more visits," DeMatha Coach Mike Jones said.

Tuesday, let's see, that would be ... oh, wait, that would be today. Well then.

Of course, that might've been cramped by the whole Jake Layman thing, though I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. Both are extremely versatile - both could play the 3 or the 4 in college, and could probably log a few minutes at the 2 if they had to - and that should mean there's room for both.

Grant picking Maryland would be a surprise, given that about a week ago Maryland wasn't officially on his list. But it'd be a pleasant one: he's the area's best player this year, and is extremely talented. He's long and athletic, with a smooth offensive game and an especially high ceiling if he can learn to be more aggressive.

Rutgers has been making serious inroads in D.C., so don't think this one's done just because you don't respect the opposing program. But the odds just shot to at least 50%.
