It's been years (decades?) since
Midnight Maryland Madness has been as fun as it should be, and it's been one of our pet causes here at Testudo Times for the past two years. Lately, there's been a movement to push it back to midnight - a no-brainer, in our minds - and the department's Facebook was at least taking opinions on the move.
Ultimately, news came out today per the WaPo's Terrapin Insider that no, the event won't be back to its rightful witching hour timeslot. But at least progress as being made, as the event will kick off at 9:30, which is at least better than the usual start of 8:00ish. Assuming, of course, that they mean the entire event will begin at 9:30, not just the men's basketball portion of it - last year, the event began at 7:45, while the men didn't take the floor until 9:30. Let's hope they push the start back entirely.
If they do, this won't be too unlike what the event really should be. As a few have reminded us, even in the old days the event itself didn't begin at midnight, instead starting earlier and finishing off with the scrimmage, which would be the only part of the event actually occurring past 12:00.
The day is October 14. Mark your calendars. Hope for Wale or, barring all else, Asher Roth.
