Randy Edsall and Maryland football updated the depth chart in preparation for the West Virginia game this upcoming Saturday. The big reveal: Justus Pickett, not D.J. Adams, is at the #2 running back spot.
Adams, who scored 11 TDs last season, was left out of the depth chart last week because of a suspension, which sounded like it'd be a one week affair. Many people, me included, believed that the majority of Maryland's red zone problems with be solved with the punishing Adams in the lineup, but now that's still under question. This isn't confirmation that he is still suspended, particularly because Pickett appeared to be a major factor in the Miami game. Either way, it's surprising, and I'm not sure I like the implication.
UPDATE 9/13 12:50PM: D.J. is in the clear, Randy said on the Tuesday teleconference. Phew. I guess, like many coaches, Randy's reintroducing him at the bottom and he'll work his way up, if he can outperform Justus Pickett (and he should).
The other big change comes on the defensive line. Starting DE Isaiah Ross went off injured last week, and was replaced by true freshman Keith Bowers and redshirt freshman Clarence Murphy. Bowers got more snaps and had his name called more often, but the two are now tied atop the depth chart to replace Ross. I'm guessing Bowers gets the start.
The other changes were relatively minor. Titus Till became the lone backup to Eric Franklin, and Dexter McDougle won the starting spot outright over Jeremiah Johnson.
