Maryland's opener against Miami is big-time for a number of reasons: Monday Night Football, first game of the season, on national TV (and legit national TV, not like Versus or ESPNU), the suspensions, the uniforms, and damn near everything else. It's just cool.
It's also a great opportunity for Mark Turgeon and the Maryland basketball program to do some heavy-duty recruiting. Getting prospects to football games is a great time to get them on campus: give them the tour, do a visit, talk with the family, and then top it off with some tickets to what should be a great game with a fantastic atmosphere. Definitely outdoes the Rutgers-N.C. Central snoozefest Jerami Grant is currently taking in.
Anyway: the list of recruits who'll be in town on Monday is large and, presumably, growing. Dave Telep says Nate Britt will be there. IMS says Amile Jefferson is coming to town. Jerami Grant "may" be there, per his own coach. Britt isn't a big deal of a visit, in truth - he's from D.C. and lives a matter of minutes away, so he can get on campus almost whenever he wants. Jefferson being there, on the other hand, is huge, particularly if it's an official visit, as has been rumored.
I'm expecting several more to be in attendance, given the size and importance of this game. Elijah Macon will wait till next weekend, it sounds, but at least he's getting on campus. If there are any other visits, we'll make sure to post.
Now, is anyone organizing a mass flyer/chant brigade like last year? C'mon, students.
