Rowe/2012 QBs

I'm not going to make friends here with this post, but here it goes anyway.

I'm going to say the same thing about Rowe I said after the Hills commit. The praise we're seeing is nice with this kid and I hope he turns into a superstar .... BUT .... this was an ideal year for us to sign a big-time QB. Any QB would be crazy not to consider Maryland because of the depth chart and the obvious clear path to playing time that a '12 can project for himself right now, combined with the fact that we threw a lot last year and have a new pass-happy OC. So why do we get two kids who didn't even have a major offer yet? There's probably 100 QBs out there ranked higher than the two we got, and none of them will consider Maryland now because we already have two QBs in our class. That's not how you bag a 4- or 5-star. Rowe had no D-1 offers and not even any really good 1-AA offers either. I want Maryland to at least attempt to target major prospects. We shouldn't always have to settle for "diamonds in the rough" and "hidden gems." Why not try to get a Rivals 250 QB just for kicks before you pull the trigger on a couple that nobody else was interested in? Are our coaches that much smarter than everyone else that they can see something nobody else sees in these unranked kids?

I don't want to always have an overachieving team with marginal talent. It would be nicer to have a talent-rich team so that when it does overachieve, it's in the BCS. Coach Edsall, you're not at UConn anymore. It's early in the game. Let's reel in some big fish for once. Locksley did. You can too.
