NBA Playoff Risers and Sinkers
I came across an interesting SB Nation article that I thought I would share. It uses the PER metric to rank players on how their performance changed from the regular season to the playoffs. (More info about PER here).
Sure enough, our own Greivis Vasquez was ranked as the top riser. When Mike Conley was in foul trouble in some of the Grizzlies' games, GV really stepped up and had some great moments. I don't expect GV to become a superstar, but he has a bright future ahead of him in the NBA and has continued to be the clutch player we all grew to love when he was a Terp.

In the playoffs, he was an efficient stud, one of the better point guards in the league. Watch out Mike Conley!
Love it.
Question
Say for instance that Vasquez has a quality career. Starts for some mid/low tier cities, possibly starts for a contender. Does his success in the pro’s elevate his debate for best Terp, or do we solely look at what he did wearing Maryland on his chest?

I think you have to look at just their Terp careers. If you count NBA careers, you could definitely make an argument for Blake over Dixon, for example, even though Dixon was the better Terp. Not to mention, you couldn’t even compare anyone to Bias who sadly never played in the NBA.
That's the idea, but it doesn't always work that way
I think it’ll almost surely affect people’s perception.
Very true, Ben. Much like how five years ago Tim Duncan was being discussed as the greatest PF ever and now that Dirk is in the limelight having just won a title, all the focus is on where he would rank on that list. Or like how the most recent champion of a sport seems to be ranked highly compared to other past champions since you just saw them and they are fresh in your mind.
btw
I still consider Duncan’s career better than Dirk. Duncan passes much better than Dirk. Duncan is a better rebounder than Dirk. Duncan has 4 rings… eod

Have to look just at Terp career.
Stiff competition with the NBA careers of Buck Williams, Brad Davis, Walt Williams, Steve Francis, etc.

Too bad he couldn't have shown that playoff spark at MD
I’m joking, relax

IMO
he did. we werent even in the game against MSU until the general took it over in the last minute or so. but it all comes down to that 1 stupid shot…
Lets gooo Maryland
Speaking of Bias
I happened to be sitting next to Red Auerbach when Bias played his last home game. Red told me he was going to take Lenny #1 in the draft. I’ll never forget it.
Wasted potential...
Tragic as it gets. Bias would’ve been better than Jordan, and kids today would be wearing Bias shoes with a logo of the reverse, two-handed slam that he pulled against UNC on the inbound steal.

Bias was a better college player, and that's all we can go on.
Throw Bias on the Celtics with Bird and company, and NBA history would look totally different today. Not saying Jordan wouldn’t have won some rings, but definitely not 6.

Actually
The Celts, along with/over the Pistons, would very possibly have been the foil for Jordan in the late 80s/early 90s…

This is very correct
Bias wouldn’t have been Jordan, but Jordan wouldn’t have been Jordan, either. Bias definitely would’ve been the face of some shoe company, though.
