Rick Barnes? Jay Wright? Jamie Dixon? Those coaches are at top-flight programs in power conferences. Throw Sean Miller in there as well, as Arizona is arguably a better program than we are. I know we're "the best job" open this offseason, but are these guys looking for a new gig?
I hate being a pessimist, but I don't see us "hitting a home run" with this hire. I see us getting someone like Mike Brey (please god no), and even he may not be interested as Notre Dame is a pretty good job. It was only a short time ago that we were making fun of NC state for thinking they could land one of these big name guys.
If we somehow got Wright or Dixon or someone like that, I would be ecstatic. However, I think our chances at a huge hire like that are slim...and if we're doing an outside hire I don't want to settle (please god don't hire Mike Brey). So what then? Rob Eshan. He's been a huge part of our recruiting puzzle recently, and if anyone has listened to J.H.'s player interviews after some games, you'd know he's a HUGE locker room influence as well. Good coach, good recruiter, and player favorite...seems like a good formula to me.
Regardless, we all need to appreciate the legend that is Gary Williams. The man has built maryland basketball as it is now with his bare hands, and deserves the court to be named in his honor immediately. And not just "Gary Williams Court", no, no that won't do. Simply: GaryLand.
Last thing, firegary is some sort of wizard or prophet and i find it quite fitting that he has disappeared. His purpose on this earth has been fulfilled, and I'm thinking he's vanished into dust.
