Heres the bad news....
One foot in
We'll be watching a number of underclassmen closely over the coming weeks who are "testing the waters." That means they haven't hired agents yet and are still open to returning to school. College players have until May 8 to withdraw from the draft without losing their eligibility. Among the top players taking that option:
Ashton Gibbs, G, Pittsburgh
Tobias Harris, F, Tennessee
Tu Holloway, PG, Xavier
Scotty Hopson, SG, Tennessee
Reggie Jackson, G, Boston College
Reggie Johnson, C, Miami
Terrence Jones, F, Kentucky
Brandon Knight, G, Kentucky
Darius Morris, PG, Michigan
Isaiah Thomas, G, Washington
Klay Thompson, G, Washington State
Jordan Williams, C, Maryland
A quick check among NBA scouts and agents reveals that virtually all of these players are far enough down the road with agents that it's impossible they'll return to school. I'm told Knight, Jones, Thompson and Williams are almost for sure going to stay in the draft.
its not definite but it looks like he is gone. I don't agree with him going pro, but i wish him the best of luck. Lets gooo Padgett, Weijs, Breunig, Hawk, Pankey and anyone else that has to attempt to fill Williams' shoes!

Out of curiosity, how do those of you who think that JW might be coming back is paying for a month of 3-a-day workouts with a professional trainer, room, and board in Las Vegas?
I wish the best for the kid, and I hope he proves the world wrong, goes #1 in the draft, starts his rookie year and averages 15 and 10. But I am not so naive to think there is a chance we ever see him at Maryland again.
sorry, that should read . . . think that JW might be coming back THINK THAT HE is paying for a month . . .
Again, no hate here. I wish the kid well, but this is just the reality. You all need to put this to bed.
Staying in Vegas is dirt cheap. Even flights there are cheap. They are hurting and basically begging people to get there. I am sure his family is not poor and they realize they can spend some money on him now because it will pay off ten fold in the past (whether that is this year or next year).
I am not saying I am certain he is coming back. I just think hanging on every word and this doom and gloom at ever single letter of his tweets is just ridiculous.

You have trained in vegas? HERE are the facts
I did my research because an assumption usually cares little value. NOT CHEAP AT ALL but good try. He is GONEEEEEEE.

Month long camp – $4K
He has been out there for over a month already and there is no telling when he will leave. So lets say that he has spent $6K already (about a month and half) … on top of spending money. Yea im sure his parents just gave him $6-8K and said go have fun in Vegas. HAHAHA.
I am all for being optimistic… as I am about Shaq and Judge… but its important to be realistic as well. Jordan is gone.
by Charlotte NC Terp on Apr 26, 2011 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions
Do we have any idea what his parents financial standing is? I don’t. 6-8k might not be that much to them, especially when they consider the return they would get. AND when you consider they didn’t spend a dime for him to go to MD (savings of just 50K for tuition alone, room, board, and other fees takes that to probably 60-70k). “HAHAHA?”

Yeah, maybe they put the $6K on a credit card.
I don’t think the cost of his Vegas training is going to be a factor in his decision to stay or go. I think if an NBA GM tells him he’s first round, he’s gone, and I’m starting to think he is. But maybe, just maybe, he will come back and put all of this new training to use, and completely dominate the ACC, and push him into the top half of the first round next year.

Agreed
I think he is almost definitely gone—don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think the money issue is what clinches it. I haven’t heard that he his going pro for the money, or because of his rough situation at home, or anything like that.
His parents (or he) could have easily gotten a credit card with a 12-month introductory rate, put 6 to 8k on the card, knowing that they could make minimum payments for a year, and then pay it off with pocket change from the signing bonus (either this year or next).
Thank you, that was my point exactly.
In the back of my head I think he is probably gone, but I really am not going to push myself one way or another until something concrete comes out. That’s just me.

we might be thanking him soon.
if he comes back and absolutely dominates, we might be in serious contention for acc title and hopefully a long tourney run. anything is possible at this point

I don’t need to accept anything until May 8th.

I am starting to think this too.
I wish him the best, but if there is a lockout he is going to sit and get fat. And when the talent rich class of 2012 come out, he will sit some more and be done. He could have all the records.
Nmprisons is right, who is paying that bill?
His family is broke?

I have said this for going on a month now
everybody wants to call me a troll , but vegas sources said he has been gone…..
You are a troll
…because you say the same negative things over and over, just in different & arrogant ways. You don’t say JWill is leaving for the NBA, instead you say JWill is leaving for the NBA, now look how bad MD will be next year and It’s all Garys fault, blah blah blah! You bring nothing but negativity to this site, and it’s getting old.

obv no one wants him gone
but if he does go, we cannot disown him or hate him for it
i think we all want him to succeed regardless of when he goes
Everybody wants him to succeed and have a great career post UMD.
However, most people would agree that another year of seasoning coupled with possible NBA work stoppage would make his decision to stay a no-brainer. But like I said, I wish him all the best, but if he goes, he will not be held in the same light as GV, Juan, Blake, Walt, etc. It’s a natural effect, 4 year players will always be revered more than early departers. Even Joe Smith, the #1 overall pick, doesn’t get the love that our graduating heroes get.
by 1 proud terp on Apr 25, 2011 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Is he the first to leave early that wasnt a lock lottery pick?
As much as it sucked for guys like Smith, Francis and Wilcox to leave, you couldnt blame them given the money they were looking at. Jordan on the other hand is a borderline 1st rder in a year with a large percentage of the top players staying in school due to a like lookout. He’ll be remembered far differnetly than the others, and not for the better
Yeah I think he might be
We are pretty lucky in that regard…every year you see borderline 1st round players leave and in some cases guys who probably won’t get drafted at all that think they are much better than they are
by tmoneyttime1 on Apr 26, 2011 5:02 AM EDT up reply actions
true
and at least we can look back fondly on that ACC title run with him. Jordan doesnt have that kind of accomplishment yet- all acc is nice, but not sure its on-par with with a tourney win
We'll Be Just Fine
Might as well get Parker and Pankey some playing time now so that they’ll have some experience by ‘12. We’ll be bad next year, but things are starting to look up after that.
I still think it’s a mistake for Jordan to go. Unless he can drastically improve his jump shooting and foul shooting, I don’t think he can succeed in the NBA. NBA-level players are just too athletic and too good at shooting. That said, I wish him the best and will root for him no matter what team he’s on.
So, what happens if there is a lockout?
….and Jordon has already gotten an agent and come May 8th keeps his name in the hopper for the draft?
-Does he have the option of going to Europe to earn some duckets?
-Does he go the NBADL? —this seems like a possibility just above hell with the drop in quality of games, opponents, living conditions, making low salary, not being the BMOC, etc
Possibly this has been answered already, so forgive me but in the event of a lockout, I just see his skills going down and, more than likely, his weight going up…
Relax
We’ll be fine. All we need (and can get) is 15 pts and 13 boards from the combo of Weijs, Pankey, Padgett and Bruenig. I personally think Weijs will surprise people this year. Throw in some tough rebounding and tenacious D from Mosely, Hawk and Parker, and scoring and D from P’Shon, Gibbs, Stogs and Faust and we will be highly competitive.
Also, anyone who doesn’t think JW is better of in the NBA doesn’t know pro basketball. He will get daily fulltime development on his shot making, his defense and his rebounding positioning. You see all the time players who were average shooters in college and all of a sudden they are 3 pt bombers in the NBA. His biggest issue is his size, because he is a tweener. But if he wants to go pro, he will develop his skills much more in 6 months there than the next 2 years at MD. Just wish him well and let’s support who we have.
Daily full-time development???
Really- NBA season is 82 games. They dont practice much at all during the season, so I’m not sure where this development time is coming from. They get better in the off-season, but NBA coaches dont develop players. they put players in a position to take advantage of other teams weaknesses and look for match-ups.The number of guys that have gone to the pros and floundered on the end of benches, ended up in the D-League, or some obscure foreign countyr far- outnumbers the ones that succeed in the NBA
Agreed
D-league !!! You think an NBA coach is going to kep him on their roster so he can practice his 15 foot jumper. I don’t think so!!!
BTW
you’re all haters

The facts are...
we don’t know the facts…Jordan is the Shadow, and only the Shadow knows…
Once a Terp, always a Terp…Jordan is one of us regardless. I just hope his advice turns out to be what’s best for him. The game moves on, we move on, sometimes look back and think what could have been. I prefer to look to the present/future and say “what now?”
I for one am a positive thinker and believe a good season for JW will result in 5-10 picks higher. The fact there, and that is a fact, is that the rookie pay scale goes up about 530k from pick 25 to 15 of the first round. I do believe JW can work on his game all summer and be a 15th pick with a very good season. But if he wants to go now, its his career, his & life. If any of you want to leave college to pursue a career ala Bill Gates, knock yourself out trying – I wish you all much success – your chances are good as a graduating Terrapin!

Wow... T Ross placed
13th in the mock 2012 draft (NBADraft.net) – wow – I didn’t think they’d be prjecting him so high already – he better show he can D up first – oh wait, they don’t play much D in the NBA…
looking at the 2012 mock
I could see JW being placed ahead of the guys in the 15-25 slot with just another very good season… any thoughts?
