By the way Ben B. great article on breaking down the remaining games on MD'S schedule and how it correlates to tournament importance. I would like to go more in depth since all the HATERS on here decided to chant NIT after MD came up empty vs. Duke. This gave me hope looking at the teams that are truly on the bubble and who MD is competeting against to get into the tourney, very few had more attractive resumes then MD.
To educate everyone on how this selection process works. This year 68 teams will make the tournament, with 31 of the 68 going to automatic qualifiers. If a team wins there Conference Tournament that team automatically gets in, 2004 Terps team. That allows 37 At-Large bids for the remaining teams. Out of the 31 Conferences 20 of those conferences will only get one team in the NCAA's due to weaker conference strength. That leaves 11 Conferences that should get multiple teams in and if any of those teams win their tournament then that opens up another At-large spot. So the 37 At-large spots could rise to 48. Bottom line a lot of openings for MD to nab one.
LOCKS: Duke, UNC, GTown, Notre Dame, Pitt, Nova, UCONN, WVU, Cuse, Louisville, Ohio St, Purdue, Wisconsin, Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Kentucky, Florida, BYU and SD St. This equals 21 teams that will be in the tourney.
TRUE BUBBLE TEAMS: VT, MD, FSU, Clemson, BC, St. Johns, Cincy, Marquette, Minn, Illinois, Mich St, Penn St, Kansas St, OK St, Zona, Washington, UCLA, Tenn, Vandy, GA, Bama, Xavier, Temple, Utah St, St. Mary's. This equals 25 candidates for about 16 spots.
REMEMBER 11 ADDITIONAL SPOTS COULD OPEN UP TO ALLOW ALL THE BUBBLE TEAMS LISTED TO MAKE THE TOURNAMENT IF THE TEAMS LISTED IN THE LOCK CATEGORY WIN THEIR CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT. I KNOW THERE ARE A COUPLE MID-MAJOR TEAMS NOT LISTED THAT ONE COULD ARGUE. I LIKE OUR CHANCES AGAINST MOST IF NOT ALL OF THOSE TEAMS LISTED IN THE BUBBLE SECTION, IF WE TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS DOWN THE STRETCH.
NOW THAT THE PICTURE HAS BEEN PAINTED AND CLARITY HAS BEEN RESTORED SINCE THE DUKE LOSS, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS NOW ON MD CHANCES????
