Every year MD fans expect the team to win every game no matter who is on the team and the level of experience. Simply this mindset only breads failure from a fans perspective. MD has played one of its toughest OOC schedules this year compared to years past. MD has beaten every team that it should have been expected to beat and lost to the teams that they should have lost to, maybe BC @ home should have been a W.
I understand this team has played competitively vs. the best teams in the Nation and have come up short in all those games. No one on hear knows what the Selection Committee is looking for considering it changes each year on who makes the dance and who doesnt. MD still has a chance to put some good wins on its resume and be a tournament team. Yes it would be nice if we could make our resume look more attractive by having a "W" against Duke, Pitt, or Nova, but in reality those are top 10 teams for a reason because they have experienced players and win the close games.
This year has been a disappointment for many reasons mainly because MD has gotten contributions from players that werent expected to contribute as much(Stogs, Dino, Pe, Hawk/Padge-for what minutes they get) and the great step JWill has taken has been a nice suprise. The biggest problem isnt that MD doesnt have a four or doesnt have a shooter, its the players that were suppose to make the biggest step into a leadership role could not do it and this is why MD is not taken the next step. Tucker can only be a sixth man, Bowie cant put together consistent scoring and ball control and Mosley...enough has been said on him, bottom line underachievers.
Let's seriously look at the remaining schedule and MD should go no worse then 6-3, but should go 7-2 since each team on the schedule from here on out has shown signs of inconsistent play just like MD. The team needs to put together at least one if not two wins in the ACC tourney. This would set us up for a chance to go to the dance.
At the end of the day, if you expected MD to be a top 20 team this year, then you obviously expected more then what was realistic. Last year, MD didnt get ranked until the last two weeks of the regular season and look at what that team did. When we played Duke on Senior night we were #23.
