I thought it would be an interesting post to list some of the more noticable Terps BBall targets that landed elsewhere from the past two years.
For the 2011 class which would be freshman this year, I took some of the higher rated recruits MD was targeting to see what impact they are making and how much PT they are getting:
Gibbs (Texas)- 7.9 min 1.7ppg .4rpg 1.4apg
Bruenig (Washington)- 10 min 2.3ppg 1.7rpg .2apg
Cook (Duke) - 8 min 3.1ppg 1rpg 1apg
O'Bryant (LSU) - 19 min 9ppg 6.8rpg .4apg
Finney-Smith (VT) - 31 min 7.1ppg 9.4rpg 2.8apg
Baru (Charleston) - 26 min 7.9ppg 5.6rgp .6apg
So looking at the freshman obviously Finney-Smith has made the most impact of any incoming freshman, especially since he went to a confernece foe in VT. Gibbs could have been the player that most benefitted by committing to the Terps since Maryland has an obvious need to PG play and he seems to be a 8th or 9th option at Texas.
Let's look back a year before in the 2010 class for shits and giggles. This class has one player in particular that Maryland could really use his contributions. Here is the list:
Harris (Tennessee) - NBA Draft
W. Barton (Memphis) - 34 min 18.2ppg 7rpg 2.2apg
A. Barton (Memphis) - 21 min 7.2ppg 2.2rpg 1.7apg
Leslie (NC State) - 27 min 14.8ppg 6rpg .8apg
Ross (Washington) - 31 min 16.2ppg 6.7rpg 2apg
Buie (Penn State/Hofstra) - Transferred and sitting out a year
After looking at the list of targets from 2010, I think that Ross sticks out the most as the one player Maryland truly could have benefitted from this year especially. Will Barton has better numbers, but there was always questions around his recruitment particularly about academics and the whole brother package with Antonio which seems to be not such a bad deal for the Tigers. I know everyone wanted Buie on here, but now looking back it seems to be better off he is elsewhere.
Please talk about what your thoughts are on the Terps that could have been and some that maybe should have been.
