The headline says it all. I know it's been said to be pretty much a done deal this whole time, but I think we all learned our lesson last year with "done deals." This is all according to Inside MD Sports. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet and haven't been able to get on twitter, but IMS has always been extremely reliable for me and they were the one's to break the Locksley story in the first case I believe.
In a statement from Locksley he said, “I’ve always had an affinity for this university and am honored to have the opportunity to rejoin the Maryland Terrapins family. I look forward to working with Coach Edsall and focusing my energy on leading our offense and recruiting student-athletes that will make a positive mark on the field and in our community.”
From Edsall: “Mike is passionate about Maryland football and we’re happy to welcome him back home. He has a tremendous offensive mind and his recruiting ties to the state of Maryland and the Washington, DC, area will play a key role for us moving forward. He brings excellent qualifications and a commitment to upholding the excellent standards of our university.”
No one seems to know for sure why it took so long to become final, but it's all good at this point. I saw somewhere that assistants aren't allowed to recruit for 10 days after they are hired so if that is the case then I'd have to imagine allowing him to have free reign over recruits would have had a lot to do with it. But again, not sure if that was the case.
There's also no mention of the contract just yet, so after seeing the debacle of the deals that Anderson handed out last offseason, I can't wait to see what Locksley's looks like.
But all in all, extremely excited for it to be done and over with so we can focus our sights on Brown, Diggs, Goldman, and 2013 in general. Not to mention a new DC and Special Teams Coordinator. Still worries me that we've heard next to nothing about them, but hopefully after bowl season things will happen fairly quickly.
Happy Holidays Terp Nation.
