Here is one of our own getting some national recognition in the media.
Four college basketball writers for CBS gave their dream teams for the 2011-12 college basketball season. Including a full roster and four total coaches. Jeff Borzello put Scott Spinelli in the spot as associate head coach, coaching under John Calipari.
Here is his description of Spinelli
"Associate Head coach -- Scott Spinelli, Maryland: Spinelli is an excellent recruiter in multiple areas, and is a tremendous evaluator of talent. He's also an underrated X's and O's coach on the sideline. "
I have had some experience with Spinelli. I was able to see him at work many times since he got here over the summer. It is hard to believe that he was unable to get the head job at Texas A&M when Turgeon came here. He truly knows what he is doing in all aspects of the game. When it comes to coaching on the court, he does all the right things. He brings a lot of energy, he puts a lot of focus on the fundamentals and small aspects of the game that make a major difference when it comes to the game, and his basketball knowledge is unreal. Turgeon seems to put a lot of faith in what Spinelli can do and he relies on him a lot.
I have had a few conversations with one of the current managers of the team and he has told me that Spinelli does it all well. (Coaching, fundamentals, X's and O's, recruiting, scouting reports) He told me that he was the lead recruiter with Seth Allen and Jake Layman, two recruits that will help raise the level of this program. It is obvious that he has many connections in many areas, a true people's person. I can see Spinelli landing us many more great recruits while he is here at Maryland, but I feel like it wont be for long. He could have a head coaching job pretty soon.
