Randy Edsall...bottomline

Randy Edsall just like any coach is going to have fans, players, alumni backing him and some that hate him. I for one do not hate him. I think he has made some major errors this year as the HC of Maryland Football. Everyone had high expectations for obvious reasons; 9-4 2010 record, DOB as the reigning ACC Freshman POY, new uniforms, and a turning of the page from the Friedgen Era. Then when you accompany all of that with beating Miami on Labor Day weekend with the Pride uniforms on ESPN and everyone talking about MD football for the entire next week, who can blame anyone for being on a week long binge. But lets take a step back.

Friedgen needed to go, period. This is further validated by Ralph's latest comments about Maryland. I think James Franklin deserved to be the next coach and since MD athletic department is not financially sound, Franklin would have been a cheaper alternative to Edsall. But that dreams is over and really we need to turn the page. Discipline is the key factor in determining why Franklin didnt become the coach, with a side of YOW. KA coming from Army wants discipline and accountability, both things Edsall excels in obviously.

Edsall did a poor job when things went south. Starting with excuses and one of the worst things a first year coach can do is blame the previous coach. Guess what that's why Ralph is gone and you are here because he couldnt do it, so blaming him is only shooting yourself in the foot. Maryland hired a new coach to win and clean up the program. Obviously he is cleaning up the lack of discipline and accountability, but winning is postponed until 2012 at the earliest. Also, no coach needs to call out players, which Edsall is guility of saying that these are Friedgen's players. Not a good way to win over a locker room and judging by watching the lack of effort in some of the MD games I think the locker room being lost is pretty accurate. The QB competition is not something you need in season. DOB has not played up to expectations and CJ is erractic at best. Pick one and stick with them unless injuries play a factor. One would have to be ignorant as F*&k not to factor the insane amount of injuries that MD has experienced this year into the reason the Terps are 2-6 and will probably be with no more then 4 wins.

Here's where I am with Maryland Football. This year is lost and everyone is to blame maybe even the fans with not filling the house vs. WVU and Towson...had to throw some humor in there. But seriously, Edsall is our coach for a minimum of 4 more years and most likely through the end of his intial 6 year contract. So if we are all as determined to have a winning football team, then show up this weekend vs. UVA support your team and hope that all the excuses go away and Saturday is the first stepping stone on having a successful program under Edsall. FEAR THE TURTLE!
