Maryland 2013 Target Nate Britt Announcing College Choice on November 29

Image via ESPNHS

Oh boy. This just got serious.

Nate Britt will announce his college decision on November 29th, per his father. Big news.
Nov 25 via UberSocial for BlackBerryFavoriteRetweetReply

The good news: he was recently at Maryland for their home opener, which is some conspicuous timing. It happened like only a week ago, after all.

The bad news: people keep saying he's in love with UNC and, given that they've offered, there's a bit of 2 + 2 = 4 thought in projecting him to the Heels.

But hey, given that we only have, oh, four days to wait, I'm not going to freak out about projecting it too much. We don't have long to wait.

As a just in case, remember that the Harrison Twins and the considerably less-discussed Rysheed Jordan are still out there as elite 2013 lead guards considering Maryland. So he's not a must get in the most literal sense of the word, even if it'd be nice to see Dalonte earn that paycheck.

i saw it on twitter. he’s a lock.

I'm gonna call it right now

We got him. We were his last visit, it would be weird timing if he was picking unc, he sees that there is way more opportunity for him here, he wants to beat the twins to the punch, he has stated many many times he likes the idea of playing for a former point guard and turge is about as good as you can get in that regard. As for him and the twins, in a vacuum I would take the twins first as most of us would but I am a huge proponent of keepin the best ballers at home. If we had just done this over the last 12 years we would be a top 5 team every year. The DMV is the most fertile bball area in the country for my money. I say dhill earns his paycheck and we lay the groudwork for the future dc assault pipeline

I'm calling it right now....He's a Terp

Also, no chance in hell the Harrison Twins come here if Nate Britt is on board, regardless of what’s been mentioned in the past.

Rumors have been flying for weeks about his family

Word is they are looking to re-locate to NC. Of course it is a rumor so I have no way of substantiating that. Add that to the fact a long while ago the kid stated the Tarheels was his dream school. Pulling for Turge but this one looks like a lost one.

by GAJTAJ on Nov 25, 2011 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

I wouldn’t get my hopes up, every indication is that he’s going to UNC, which, in my mind, makes no sense considering that at the very least Paige will be in front of him by only a year and it is possible that Marshall will be too.

by jhough813 on Nov 25, 2011 1:57 PM EST reply actions

I'm torn

Like most I would take the twins over Britt in a heartbeat. At the same time though I realize the twins are: 1) far from a given 2) not deciding this early 3) not local 4) doesn’t seem to be on us right , or at least as much as Britt. IDK maybe I’m greedy, but I’d still be thrilled with Britt. Who wouldn’t be happy with an early 5 star commitment this early for the ’13 class. Hope he makes the right choose and picks us.

Oh and I want to know what are you guys thoughts on Aquille Carr? We always talk about getting good locals and he is a local legend. He’s probably , publicity wise, the biggest recruit in ‘13 class, especially for us . This kid can bring 10,000+ Baltimore fans to Comcast by himself. Every kid in the city wants to play with him and I’m pretty sure he knows Dwayne Morgan. He has a few issues , the biggest being academics but from what I’m hearing they are improving. And the reason he’s older than others in his class is because he was home schooled when he was younger, and when he started school he had to start a year late. So please share your thoughts, especially Ben since I seem to agree alot with your basketball comments. Go Terps!

by fatchris on Nov 25, 2011 2:05 PM EST reply actions

As much as I like Carr's game,

and as much as he would be exciting as hell to watch, he’s gotta fall behind Britt and the twins. If we don’t get Britt of the twins, I’m all in, FWIW.

by curterp on Nov 25, 2011 3:24 PM EST up reply actions

the problem is

his height. he’d probably be a top 5 player otherwise

by whatdoiget000 on Nov 25, 2011 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

He may feel like he can

outplay Paige or at least earn plenty of PT. Plus, there is the allure of playing for UNC. The prospect of playing for a college basketball blue blood is, I’m sure, enough for some players to opt for it over another school where PT would be more plentiful.

by Jason Middlekauff on Nov 25, 2011 2:07 PM EST reply actions

Obviously I want him to be a terp

but he’s recent visit to MD doesn’t mean much either way about which way he is leaning.

He was probably a UNC or MD guy and now that he’s seen both he’s ready to decide. Either way, at least we were in the hunt for him. If we get him, yikes. But until then, I’m skeptical. Like everyone else is saying everything is pointing to UNC. I know people like to focus on the fact that the he would get more PT here or at least have less competition for PT, but that’s really just one factor in the decision making process for most players.

Either way, looking forward to knowing on the 29th so that we can either celebrate or start to move on to the next targets.

by tERP01 on Nov 25, 2011 2:38 PM EST reply actions

His trip to UMD

could just as easily cemented his decision to go to UNC. Guess we’ll find out on the 29th. Keeping my fingers crossed until then.

Not that I think he'll come here...

but if I’m Nate Britt I’m sitting at that UNC Wilmington game thinking, “Damn, I can’t wait to get here and run house…” IMO

But yea I’m sure it’ll be Carolina

Partly because...

they are 17 years old.

Didn't Britt and the Harrisons play against each other this summer?

Does anyone remember the result? I think the pg Harrison outplayed Britt, and it was physical, but I could be confused…

by SanFranTerp on Nov 25, 2011 4:30 PM EST reply actions

Twins won the head to head

But they were on the same team at the adidas camp and went undefeated

And at the Elite24 camp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvS4-iIsX8A&feature=related

He mentions the Twins, as well as listing Maryland 1st when asked who’s recruiting you the hardest with UNC completely absent from the list(This is late August)

by oriolekid on Nov 25, 2011 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

Got really chippy, but Andrew beat Britt

Interesting thing is that Britt was at the NBPA Top 100 Camp and the twins weren’t, and Britt put on a clinic and everyone thought he was the best PG in the country regardless of class. That was right before the game you’re referencing. Basically, Andrew just reclaimed his crown.

Obviously, Harrisons > Britt, but Britt is a likely three-year player at a minimum based on his height, whereas twins are almost certainly one-and-dones.

who is the lead recruiter on Britt?

Given the signs that point toward Britt choosing UNC,

I’m not too optimistic that he’ll opt to be a Terp.

But something that could hint at him donning Terp duds (or could be indicative of nothing at all): He’s set to announce his decision on the 29th, the day the Terps host Illinois. UNC doesn’t play until the following day.

by Jason Middlekauff on Nov 25, 2011 9:49 PM EST reply actions

He can bet knows now,

so that’s something worth holding on to. Why not Monday, or Wednesday (when UNC plays)? If we learn he’ll be at the game, it’ll be a really good sign!!!

Nov. 29

Is Gonzagas “season tip-off party” of sorts, that’s why he’s announcing on Tuesday, he’s doing it at the event.

And he’s going to UNC, which will make it even better when the Harrison’s are leading us to an ACC title in ’13.

I hate these year early commits

Like Quinn Cook, Nate will be on the bench @ UNC while the Harrisons rack up huge frosh minutes in 2013. Unless he throws a serious curveball – that will make my holiday season!

another reason I think he is coming here

He is announcing at his high school tip off event. Where would be a better place to say “I’m staying home y’all!!!!”. It seems like a weird place to say your goin hundreds of miles away

Isn't Georgetown still in the mix?

That would probably make more sense than Maryland…

COMMIT

I wish he was coming to CP. Dose’nt look good, but at least Md. s still good W/ others.

by PADGE on Nov 26, 2011 5:20 AM EST reply actions

I didn't know about his high school thing on the 29th.

With recruiting, I assume everyone is going elsewhere, that way when a player chooses MD, I’m pleasantly surprised. In this case, it really does appear he’ll head to UNC.

As for the Harrison twins, beating out UK is a tall task, but I think their dad’s comments regarding Turgeon are certainly a positive, and something that honestly I don’t think can be said of Calipari.

Ben, you mentioned Rysheed Jordan. Has MD showed any interest in him? They’re not listed among any of the schools on ESPN, Scout, or Rivals.

by Jason Middlekauff on Nov 26, 2011 9:24 AM EST reply actions

Dave Telep tweeted this morning that Britt was announcing his decision Tuesday.

I asked him, “All indications point toward UNC, right?”

He responded,
“@JasonM09 be my guess but I’m seeking more information.”

anyone else notice?

Nick’s wearing a wristwatch in that promo photo? lmao Not like he’s going to Oxon Hill and his watch would walk during the shoot!

Britt to UNC

per TT. Not that anyone should be surprised.

by Mr. E on Nov 26, 2011 9:04 PM EST reply actions

Can't say I'm surprised

Disappointed? Yes. It’s time to go all out on the twins. Let’s just hope their dad would rather them be coached by a father figure than a babysitter.

by terpsallday on Nov 27, 2011 12:07 AM EST up reply actions

No, not surprised.

It’s disappointing nonetheless. It says a lot for the allure of a blue-blood program like UNC that a top-level player would rather possibly (and perhaps likely) come off the bench for such a team than be a building block of another.

Have there been any substantiated reports of when the Harrison twins intend to declare where they’ll go? Is it a given they’ll both go to the same school?

As I stated above, I always assume the worst when it comes to recruiting. It mitigates disappointment. Still, I’m not sure it’s possible to overstate how significant landing the Harrison twins would be. (Of course, that’s why it’s also impossible to overstate how sickening it would (or will) be to see them playing for Slimy Cal.

by Jason Middlekauff on Nov 26, 2011 11:10 PM EST reply actions

Regarding the twins

IIRC they said that they’ll commit during the early signing period next year, maybe a bit sooner, but they didn’t say when they would sign their LOI. And yes, it is a given they both go to the same school. They want to play together
