Maryland Basketball Recruiting Falling Short

I think when Turgeon came in with Spinelli and then hired Hill, we genuinely believed that Maryland's class would be top 5. Everyone keeps mentioning that this is a new staff, yet we keep forgetting that NC State also has a brand new staff and they have the 2nd rated class in the nation. As much as anyone else, I want the Harrisons. Quite honestly, it's not going to happen. Maryland is an amazing school and we should be battling for top prospects with the likes of Villanova, Syracuse, Pitt, Memphis ECT. However, there just isn't the incentive for a top 5 recruit to come here. That is not a depressing notion because you don't need top 5 recruits to win a national championship. You need the right blend of recruits but a bulk need to be in the top 60 generally. Look at the stats. We're not going to be able to beat out UNC for Nate Britt either. I hate to get down on Maryland basketball, but until we understand our limitations, we will never get on the right track.
