Maryland Minute - 10.18.11 - Maryland's Special Teams Struggling

Stay connected for news and updates

Maryland's kickoff and punt return coverage does a good job of making people look like Heisman candidates...

Sorry for the lack of a Maryland Minute the past few days. The three of us have been tied up in various personal matters and there honestly hasn't been too much going on that we didn't do a feature story on. So here's your latest Maryland news from around the web...

Terps' special teams not so special - Washington Times
Between the ups and downs Maryland has gone through this season, the one constant has been that the special teams coverage on kickoffs and punts has been terrible. Also, Edsall's clock management has also been terrible. Did anyone else notice in the Clemson game when we called a timeout 13 seconds before the end of the quarter? Uh, why? It wasn't 13 seconds before the end of the half or end of the game, so why are you trying to save that time? Ugh.

Keith Booth finds a home at Loyala ... women's basketball

Always liked Booth, but thought he was a little in over his head as an assistant here. This is a pretty good argument in favor of that thought. -Ben B.

My take - I was shocked that this is where Booth ended up. I thought at minimum that if he was at Loyola he'd be working under Jimmy Patsos. Booth was at Maryland for several years, so you think that would count for something, but apparently not. I guess he could have just wanted to stay in the Baltimore area and this was his only shot...
