DOB the next Russell Wilson?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/terrapins-insider/post/maryland-quarterback-danny-obrien-should-have-options-after-season/2011/10/19/gIQAefyPxL_blog.html
How weird would it be to watch Danny tear it up for another school next season? I like Danny so this wouldn't be a bad scenario for me. It would however be a bad one for Edsall if we struggle next season and Danny goes nuts. I will be interesting to see how our fans react compared to NCST. They have turned on Wilson AND O'Brien. I think the backlash would be towards Edsall and not Danny.

really really really dont want to see this kid go
i dont care what the situation is here with cj and crwtn’s new system i want DOB playing
Lets gooo Maryland
Winning
Look I agree DOB is a good pro style QB, but that’s not what MD runs. DOB has looked horrible this year and you can blame it on a multitude of reasons (offensive scheme, loss of starters from last year, the weather, Debbie Yow), but the bottom line its all about winning!!!
To me if CJ Brown gives us the best chance of winning which if you look at the last 3 halfs, he does, then CJ Brown is who we go with period.

Next season
First off, DOB can’t suit up for another school next year and play. The only way that the NCAA would make an exception would be to move closer to home because of a family illness.

Yeah He Can!
Danny being the great guy he is, is scheduled to graduate a little earlier than expected. This spring! So if he transfers say to Vandy and enrolls in a Grad program not offered at UMD he will be playing for Franklin, (a -la Russell Wilson). So it could be a very real possibility for him to transfer and use his remaining eligibility at another school.

is he actually graduating?
He is going to graduate in 3 years, and did it while playing football? That is impressive if true.
However, in the normal scenario if he is not graduating, then he can only transfer and play immediately if he is taking a graduate major not offered at UMD.
I offer him the best of luck if he transfers, I think it is kindof crappy the way they don’t play him in the system that fits him best and what he excels at, since he is a great pro style quarterback.
Does that mean
DOB could be the mystery man speaking out against Edsall?

Could be...and could NOT be
I wouldn’t even speculate on that. You’ll never know unless the supposed person who said it says it after they graduate. Edsall will never say it even if they had a conversation about it.

I love 2010 DOB
Fact of the matter was 2011 DOB was very inaccurate this year. At least with CJ you get the same inaccuracy but he can run. I wish the best for DOB but I think we have seen the last of him in a terp uni.
I think he should tear it up for the Commodores
at Vanderbilt. Danny is from the south and could reunite with Franklin at a good academic school in the SEC. Boom.
I love Danny and hope he stays but if he doesn’t play anymore this year, I wouldn’t expect him to.
BTW I don’t think this is anything like the Russell Wilson scenario.
and lets go to Bentleys...
yeah
russel left because he had no faith in his team and wanted a better shot at the heisman.
Lets gooo Maryland
Wilson
He left for similar reasons. He was told he was going to be the number two QB. Wilson has stated that he would have stayed if they had even let him compete for the starting job. Some question if he would have really stayed in that scenario but that’s what he says anyway.
DOB
is going to be a great QB for some other school in a pro style offense. We will be stuck with this idiotic gimmick offense of WR screens and QB runs for the foreseeable future.
Most of the good ones
run a variation of a pro-style offense.
Is this a joke?
Wilson killed it at NC State with a horrible O-line, no defense, and no offensive weapons. He is in a different league in terms of skill, mobility, and football IQ. DOB had a great freshman year under a different offense, easy schedule, extremely fast veteran receivers, and a better O line. No sure how a sentence with Russell Wilson (potential Heisman this year) and DOB (back up QB for a 2-4 team) could ever make sense. Call me pessimistic, start talking about how I don’t know what I am saying, tell me to go into my limo, but I am 100% right about this.
Go into your limo...
I’m comparing their situation, not their talent level. Although, Danny played really well last year, he definitely struggled this season. He has skills in the right offense.
Remember, Wilson left because he was busted down to second string by O’Brien. State could have had Wilson as their starting QB and chose not to.
Danny may not be quite as good as everyone thought coming into this season but he surely isn’t nearly as bad as people think now.
& start pouring the bubbly... lol
Ray, sorry for clubbing you frequently, but I believe DOB could parallel Wilson in that he will go to another school where he will succeed/win at if he does transfer. I hope to heck he doesn’t because things change quickly with college ball as in the NFL. so, go into the limo and think it over – you may be right n the sense that last year is obviously much different than this season’s circumstances. That being said, I never envisioned this turn of events for this season for DOB.

Read past the headline
The poster, and the WaPo article, draw parallels between DOB’s and Wilson’s situations in terms of transferring and eligibility to play, not in their playing styles or skills.
Wilson was able to transfer to another school and play the next year because he had already graduated in 3 years, and yet still had football eligibility. DOB is on track to do the same and, if he so desires, could transfer and immediately start.
Wilson went from being important on a mediocre team to a Heisman contender on a great team. The WaPo article states DOB’s desire to play in the NFL. The poster infers that DOB has the POTENTIAL to transfer and then play at a really high level for the next 2 years. Is it likely that he has a Heisman type year if he transfers? No. But the potential is there.
The reason that people on these boards call you out is because of your consistent inaccuracies, idiotic behavior, and constant cries for attention.
Wilson
Redshirted and graduated in four years, remember when you a redshirt Junior you have been going to school for four years.

It is amazing how people make comments without thinking about what they are saying. Comparing Danny O’Brien to Russell Wilson?? Wilson was spectacular for (3) years and basically was the main reason NC State was a very dangerous team. Secondly, Danny looked good in the Spring, Fall and was outstanding against Miami and then who knows what happened. I don’t think he knows but it was NOT the offense scheme. If you remember against GT we did not even throw a bubble screen pass and the first (3) plays of the game were designed for him to be comfortable (3) downfield passes. i hope he stays because you need two good QB’s; look at LSU right now and both are completely different in their styles. Time to move on and get some of our walking wounded back on the field so we have a chance to win some of these games.
With the way CJB plays
he is almost guarenteed to get injured. DOB will see the field again this season. It may only be a series or two but CJ will have to go out at some point with how often he is leaving the pocket.
I can see FSU taking CJ out of the game with how big their defense is and danny could open the competition back up if he plays well.

that's what worries me
things can change quickly the other direction too. I hope CJB doesn’t get hurt, but he is out there exposed and odds are increased…watch out…

FSU is not that big but they are really fast. Clemson was bigger but I cannot understand how they could not have been prepared for CJ. You are exactly right about an injury (1st off look at last year). The odds are he will be out for at least a few plays or so. Look, Danny and CJ are the perfect compliment to each other. What is hurting us the most right now is lack of depth particulary on defense, so at least at QB we have two very good players.
If this isn't the place for Danny
I hope he finds wherever he needs to be and has success there. He deserves it and he’s a likable guy. Just wasn’t to be.
You know he feels bad.......
BUT WHAT THE F*@K WAS THAT BS?….Wide open and a perfect pass. Division III player!

I posted this on ESPN-Game Comments
The question is whether CJ can have a repeat of GT/Clemson. Neither was able to really prepare for him. GT didn’t know he was coming in/hadn’t seen him before, and Clemson was planning on DOB. We’ll have to see how he does, when a team has a week to plan for him….or maybe Danny comes back in relief and throws for 300 yards
If CJ beasts it the rest of the year
Then completely cool with it and good luck to him
Can’t blame him at all

I certainly hope DOB stays
but if he leaves to find success it will not be at Vandy as long as they are in the SEC. I know Franklin is seemingly getting them inspired there, but after their 3 early season non-conf wins every year they will have to begin SEC play at some point. They will never be a .500 team if they have to play Bama, Auburn, LSU, USC, UGA, TN, FL, etc back to back to back.
Ronnie Tyler certainly didn't help DOB's campaign
Let’s forget for a moment the handful of passes that were either about 3 yards short or thrown into double/triple coverage.
Ronnie Tyler and his butterfingers certainly took their toll on DOB’s “apparent” struggles. So goes the saying that you’re only as strong as your weakest link. Even the greatest quarterback of all time looks like crap when he’s provided with a receiver, or should I say route-runner because that’s all he does, who can’t even catch a cold.
Russell Wilson screwed himself at NC St.
He thought Tom O’brien would take him back no matter what, Tom gave him a date, and Wilson never communicated with Tom. The date passed and Tom said good-bye to Russell, who really does SUCK at baseball. Can’t blame O’brien for the Wilson miss. Wilson did it to himself.
DOB is certainly no Wilson, with a completely different style. And don;t give Wilson all the credit he seems to be getting. His OL is one of the top 5 in the country. Wisconsin is very talented without Wilson. Wilson is a young McNabb. He can run like CJ and pass like DOB. But he has all day to make up his mind behind that HUGE OL.
I hope DOB hangs in there and keeps trying to learn the system. All it takes is one hit on CJ and DOB is back to the starter.
Tom O'Brien
Only Debbie Yow would allow a coach to let a Heisman Candidate QB walk away.
