Maryland Minute 9.5.10 - On the Eve of the Opener, Maryland-Navy

This Sounds Awesome: Make Maryland-Navy a "Governor's Cup", Weekend Festival
Wait, wait, wait: why doesn't this happen already?

For openers, he'd like to see the two teams play each other every three years in Baltimore.

Blow it out over a full weekend with parades, festivals, the whole nine yards.

Let both schools use the game as a recruiting tool. Have a Navy destroyer anchored at the Inner Harbor for tours. Let Maryland take over the Science Center and show off all they do in their respected science and technology departments.

Maryland, Navy hope football matchup rekindles local rivalry
Another "rekindling the rivalry" piece.

"We play Virginia. That's a rivalry," Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen said. "We play West Virginia. That's a rivalry. We play Virginia Tech. That's a rivalry. But when you are playing someone 25 miles away from you, it's going to turn into a rivalry, and that is what I would like to see it become."

Since when is VT-MD a rivalry? Anyway, I believe everyone's agreed: let's make this a full-time rivalry. Mr. Anderson, let's get to it.

New 2011 Basketball Recruiting ESPNU 100
Plus, new star rankings. Current targets:
#13 - Johnny O'Bryant (five stars)
#22 - Jabari Brown (four stars)
#25 - Nick Faust (four stars)
#47 - Adjehi Baru (four stars)
#72 - Mikael Hopkins (four stars)
#76 - Desmond Hubert (four stars)
#98 - Antwan Space (four stars)

O'Bryant is a little high, Brown a little low. Other than that, everything seems in order. Hopkins has sunk like a rock.

Delonte Morton, Darius Jennings Star in Opening HS Games
Morton is a Terps commitment, and sounds like a star.

Returning to the lineup after missing last season because of a serious knee injury, running back Delonte Morton rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead 36-yard score midway through the fourth quarter as the Stags escaped with a 45-31 victory over Loyola Blakefield.

Jennings probably won't end up here, but he helped to lead Gilman to a win over WCAC leader Good Counsel.
