Terp QBs Go Down: Brown Breaks Collarbone, O'Brien Sprains Ankle [UPDATE: O'Brien Should Be Healthy for WVU]
Just about the only damper from the gigantic Morgan State victory were the injuries that both of Maryland's backup QBs, Danny O'Brien and C.J. Brown, sustained. Both were serious enough that they were kept out of the game in favor of starter (for now) Jamarr Robinson in the fourth quarter.
And from the post-game news conference comes the quick news: C.J. Brown has broken his collarbone and will be eight weeks (or eight months, depending on the tweeter). More to the point, Danny O'Brien, who made a strong case for a QB controversy with a strong performance tonight, sprained his ankle, but the severity is unknown right now.
He was able to walk on it shortly after the injury, which bodes well. It clearly wasn't serious enough for him to be taken to the locker room, and that's good news. But sprained ankles can be quick recoveries or they can linger for weeks. If it does linger, that could rule him out for the West Virginia game next week. That's big; even if he didn't start, which was a long shot, he'd be waiting in the wings should Robinson fail to impress.
Meantime, if O'Brien's injury is long-term, true freshmen Tyler Smith or Devin Burns better get ready.
[Update by Ben Broman, 09/11/10 11:10 PM EDT - We're good: O'Brien should be healthy by West Virginia. And so the QB controversy begins.]

IMO...
I think the safe thing would be to stick with 2 QB’s against WVU…they will be reeling from a near defeat that they didn’t play well in, at all. 2 QB’s will give us an added dimension and make it more complicated for them to prepare.
If the Terps keep playing like they are now the ACC better watch out.
Fixed.

especially
because the acc SUCKS this year. horrible performances on saturday. proves that the ACC deserves to be considered second worst of the major conferences, if not worst.
Great game
Near the end of the 3rd quarter and UVA is down 14-7. They are playing with a lot of heart and intensity, and have a shot at giving the ACC its only quality win of the day. I really like London as a head coach, its a shame he got scooped up by them before Ralph left here…
We Need both QBs, but I'd rather develop DOB down the stretch.
Right now it’s really great to be juggling to QBs because it’s allowing us to run different packages and plays which confuses opposing defenses. Eventually teams catch on to these tricks though, therefore, I’d rather have one good consistent starting QB and we already have to great RBs that can pound the ball through the ground, so why keep a scrambling QB when we could have a better pocket passer with the ability to escape the pocket and roll out if he’s in trouble. I’ll take DOB for now. 5-10 and 3 TDs.

agreed
Robinson once again looked gun shy. He was showing off a big arm at the end of last year but this year looks completely different. From what I see from the stands, it seems he’s double clutching on throws and pulling it down just to safely run it. O’Brien definitely looks like the most viable option as the season progresses.
