Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Saw Mychal Parker Today

I was walking on campus, trying to figure out where all my classes were and i practically bumped into Mychal Parker as I came around a corner. I didn't get the chance to say anything but one thing I noticed is that he didn't really look like 6'6'' although I didn't get a great look. Just thought I'd share. Also I have a group of people who are willing to do something for when Harkless comes to visit, but we need some ideas so please share.

Pretty cool

He’s probably around 6-5 when it’s all said and done. Usually 1-2"s are added. The real good news is that he’s definitely on campus and that probably means no sweating out anything academic/clearinghouse/whatever. He’s probably good to go if he’s here.

We tried to get something together last year for the Tobias visit and failed. It’d be pretty sweet if we could actually do something this time. Sadly, we have no rock and the “H” next to the M ain’t happening for obvious reasons.

I remember Duke fans had signs everywhere for Kyrie Irving on his visit, but that’s not particularly creative. Wish I was more creative and on campus.

dumb idea

How about using a play on words with the Kanye Song Heartless.thats really all i got. how about a highlight tape with him and len bias? this stinks.

The only problem with that idea is that I’m only a regular freshman student and in no way do I have any of the connections necessary to be able to show him a video. I actually scoped out the M and there simply isn’t any way to put an H next to in any impactful way. There just isn’t enough room.

Mo Harkless Mo Problems.

With pictures of Coach K and Roy Williams in distress. Fierce-looking Testudo on top.

Keep bringin' em

Excellent. LOL.

If nothing else maybe just put together a few poster designs, make a couple dozen copies, and try to get them into campus where he’ll see ’em.

Dammit we need a rock. What’s the closest thing we have to a rock? Or, alternatively, where on campus would a recruit have to go on a visit that a student would also have access to?

what day does he come again?

How about a play

on the old Nike commercials with Bo Jackson. Instead of “Bo knows ____” use “Mo knows___”. For example: “Mo knows Maryland”, “Mo knows Comcast”, etc. Print that on a bunch of stickers or posters and plaster them all over campus, like those Andre the Giant stickers or whatever. I don’t know, that’s all I got for now.

my friend suggested we have a picture of him with this under it

Moe + UMD = National Championship…Simple Math.

Plywood letters

spelling out “Harkless” painted red and then stuck over top the Letters " B Y R D " at the top of byrd stadium so that it reads “HARKLESS STADIUM” it would cost $100 (one sheet of luan per letter plus some liquid nails.

It would also be unbelievably difficult to do

We need some more realistic options, methinks.

Also, yeah, he’s a basketball player.

take advantage

of those huge stairs in front of Comcast! he will without a doubt pass by them….maybe a huge poster of him with like “the future” or some cliche like that

Anything

Huge with his picture on it and Maryland referenced in will do the job.

Best idea would be to get a group of hot girls to follow him around campus with big letters that spell out his name or something. The kid is 17 years old, you get a group of attractive college girls to follow him around chanting his name or whatever, hes in. And as long as nothing Colorado esque happens well be fine as far as the NCAA is concerned.

Any phrase would work. It's how you do it

TN with the rock painting was original (I think) but pretty lame without the geology. Can anyone think of a good sized wall that you can do a larger than life chalk mural? Post a big sign or the like? As to where, I’m sure the program may share an idea of a good spot. Ben, you guys know anyone u can talk to?

"Ben, you guys know anyone u can talk to?"

Ha, I wish. You mean inside the program, relatively speaking? Not really. We’ve gotten some less-than-happy emails from the SID people, but I’m pretty sure contacting them about a secondary recruiting violation in the making is a bad idea.

Tennessee’s rock is kinda like a campus tradition. People paint the rock for anything…parties, big games, birthdays, whatever. In fact, the first time it was painted, it got painted over by a sorority and they had to redo it before Tobias left campus.

We don’t really have that, which sucks, and I can’t think of any big space that’s easily decorated. Then again, I haven’t been on campus in awhile; current students would be better served there.

The fountains on the mall

I have no idea what to do there but that is the signature landmark of any campus tour.

I would also impliment “bikini day” to fall on the same day as his visit.

Witness

what about photoshopping the “Witness” Lebron poster and putting that on the side of Comcast. Obviously the scale would be smaller but that would be pretty cool to see if you were coming to see campus.

And I also know that he is a Basketball player and not a football player. I also know that he wouldn’t play in Byrd, but thanks for insulting my intelligence. Pretty sure he would go to Byrd stadium on his campus tour. I got on top of Byrd all the time at night when I was there, just thought it would be a cool idea.

Apologies if I/kckb8 offended you

There are people that don’t know or forget but still want to help.

Harkless wasn't meant to be

Time to make a push for Jabari. Hopefully Pe’shon can swing both JOB and JABari.

But Faust is still top priority, the Bmore connection needs to get rolling.
