Hearing more and more that South Kent Prep SF Maurice Harkless would like to play in college close to home
Best (er, worst) of news on slow day. Probably meaning SJU is pulling ahead.

The prevailing opinion as to why he decided to make MD and unofficial
was because it was within driving distance, and thus could save him an official visit, so he wouldnt have to pay.
But the reason more likely is because hes just not that into us. Why? Because if he really was trying to be mindful of travel costs, under no circumstances would he have left SJU an official.
I expect him to sign with SJU.
I expect the class to be: Gibbs, Lewis, Space, and another recruit who we dont know yet
I dont think Faust will sign with us to be honest, though one poster insists (I dont know on what source though)
If that's the case
Then we get yet another underwhelming recruiting class… sigh

IIRC, SJU isn't an official
Also, that’s a very negative outlook, IMO. I still think we lead for Faust, though the longer it goes the more worried I get. For some reason it almost seems like he actually likes Louisville. But even only semi-informed fans of the Ville think Faust is MD-bound.
I love how negative the fanbase always is. I fully expect the class to be Gibbs, Faust, Space, and Baru/O’Bryant but frankly it doesn’t matter since Gary will coach up whoever we land anyways. Watch Peshon this year and you’ll understand that rankings mean nothing.
Rankings aren’t the only thing that will determine if a recruit is going to be a good player, but in order to win a National Championship these days, you usually have to have a decent amount of 4 and 5 stars on your team. Getting top ranked recruits doesnt guarantee success but it definitely helps. You can have a good year or two without any highly ranked guys, but in order to be consistently competing for ACC and National Championships, you need to get highly ranked recruits.
While UMD is not as close to home for Harkless as St Johns, it still is closer then most of the other schools on his list. And about the official/unofficial thing, making St Johns an official is a form of respect towards the school. Theyre his hometown team, and not having them as an official wouldnt look good around the city. Its a lot easier to make a team that no one cares about up in NY an unofficial, like UMD.
300 million people
Gary Williams will find somebody that wants to play. Won 4 out of 5 against North Carolina. Gary has beaten Duke more than any active coach out there. Last team to beat Duke. Always tell people that Gary is the best coach because he finds a way to win with decent recruits. Not prima donnas.
I wish i never learned about recruiting
I miss the days when we didn’t have all this access to recruiting news we go back and forth about rumors about 16 to 18 year old boys isnt that weird

RU is a strong strong possibility...
They will already have Harkless’ cousin Mike Pool signed and on Sep 1st they will sign 4* power forward Kadeem Jack another local and friend of Harkless.
I expect he will sign with either SJU or RU but I don’t know which one has the upper hand right now.
Space probably fits our roster better given his size and versatility so as long as we land him its not a big deal.
Seems like Gary is on a mission this year...
I fully expect one hell of a class for the next few years as GW goes out in a blaze of glory. And it is funny to see how terps fans are so negative about this. I understand not being blindly optimistic, but let’s find a balance here. Bottom line, last season we were a buzzer beater away from making serious noise in the dance with a team of sub-4/5-star players, and we beat the eventual Nat. Champs. We’ll be alright either way.
Last year was awesome, but it was also the senior year of 2 four star players
Not to mention a top 110 three star (Landon).
We weren’t UNC or anything, but we also had a nice bit of talent. Both GV and Hayes were top 75 players and four stars, and Landon was pretty close himself. Plus, Mosley was a four star and so was Williams. There was a lot of talent on that team, and even then we had to wait four years for GV/Hayes/Milbourne to make some serious noise in the conference because most of what surrounded them were three star players. Teams really do need high-level talent to succeed in the ACC.
