Red Lion's Andrew Zeller leaning toward Terps
After weeks of fielding recruiting interest and trekking to campuses across the country, Red Lion football standout Andrew Zeller appears ready to make a decision on his college future.
The rising senior lineman plans to visit the University of Maryland on Thursday, and said he's strongly leaning toward giving the Terrapins his verbal commitment during the trip.
"I'm pretty set on it," Zeller said Tuesday. "I believe I'm going to make my decision there."
If Zeller does wind up choosing Maryland, it would represent a homecoming of sorts: Zeller followed the Terrapins while growing up in Carroll County, Md. His family moved to Red Lion five years ago.
Zeller's recruiting stock has ballooned the last few months, thanks mostly to his ideal size (6-foot-5, 280 pounds) and surprising agility. Zeller said Maryland coaches are recruiting him primarily as an offensive tackle.
Besides Maryland, Zeller also has written scholarship offers from Duke, Rutgers and Oregon.
Zeller said there are a few interested schools that have not offered him yet, including Tennessee and "a couple other big schools in the SEC." If one of those schools extended an offer before Thursday, Zeller said he might hold off on committing to Maryland.
Verbal commitments are non-binding, so even if Zeller does "commit" on Thursday, he can still change his mind.
