I recently posted a comment on the article, "Anybody But Duke: The Case For Rooting Against THE Blue Devils In The Final Four and Forever." Definitely a required reading for any college basketball fan.
I basically acknowledged that a lot of Duke Haters are driven by their emotions. But I also took a stand in saying that Duke is the poster boy of the hypocrisy that is college basketball. People can't just drop college basketball altogether, so instead, Duke becomes a proxy for everyone's hate.
The comment I made got me thinking ... for all the crap that Gary has to put up with in regards to recruiting, it felt great that I can take a moral high ground and call out the NCAAB and programs such as Duke for their hypocrisy when it comes to the notion of the student athlete and recruiting.
I've heard that it's easier to be a student athlete at Duke than Maryland, which is kind of counter intuitive considering Duke's reputation for it's academics. Then there is the whole Corey Maggette incident that got swept under the rug while Memphis had to vacate their Finals run when Derrick Rose was found to be ineligible. Anyways, go read the article if you haven't already and read the comments. It's a good read.
To all you fellow Terps out there, appreciate that we are a clean program with LEGIT final fours and a national Championship. We have the best coach in the nation and given the hypocrisy and shady business that goes on in college basketball, we can actually take the moral highground. Let's act like we've been there and stick to logic rather than emotions when it comes to criticizing Duke. Why? Because we're one of the few who can ; )
