Greivis Vasquez, Gary Williams Win ACC Player, Coach of the Year Awards

As I said earlier today, Greivis Vasquez has won the ACC Player of the Year award and Gary Williams has been named ACC coach of the year. Any other result would have had me leading a revolt against the ACC writers because both of those guys deserved their awards more than anyone else in the league. And the fact that Seth Greenberg has won that award more times than Gary is a travesty. But at least they've each won it twice now.

Jordan Williams was 2nd in the ROY voting - he had six votes. Favors earned 45 of 53. Not sure who the other 2 votes went to but how do you justify not giving it to Favors or Jordan?

We'll have more on this later today. Until then, celebrate like it's 2002!

Congrats to both guys

I am usually very highly critical of Gary, and what he has done with the organization these last two years has been phenomenal. Great year Gary!

What can I say about Greivis that hasn’t already been said? Great year! Now let’s go out and make some noise in these tournaments.

by t.shug on Mar 9, 2010 1:12 PM EST reply actions

just updated that

Jordan came in 2nd with 6 votes. Favors won, getting 45 of the 53 votes. How the heck someone voted for not Jordan or Favors is beyond me (2 people did).

Congrats!

Can’t wait for Debbie Yow’s less-than-gushing press release.

Although, POY should have been Jin Soo Choi. Cuz after he left, the Terps took off. :)

So great for them

It would have been idiotic to not have these two win the awards. Almost as idiotic as Duke staying in the 4th ranking while we only move up to 19. So sad.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

I don't see Duke staying at 4 as reflecting poorly on us

K-State probably would have replaced Duke at 4 if they had beaten Iowa State (a really bad team) at home, but they couldn’t do it, in fact it dropped them all the way to 9.

Duke lost to a good team (us) on the road and people are finally realizing that we are a good team.

Yeah

Except for the fact that we are only at 19

Lunardi's bracket

How do we move from a 5 to a 6 and georgetown move from a 6 to a 5 without either of us playing yesterday?

by bfhmdtrps25 on Mar 9, 2010 1:40 PM EST reply actions

Because Lunardi is the worst bracketologist of all time

How does Duke’s stock “rise” after beating UNC at home? He’s an idiot. Bracketology101 is soooo much better. They have us as a 4.

ill take a 6

against (3)new mexico and (2)kansas state over pretty much any other draw

Cousy?

When do they announce the winner of the Cousy award? I was thinking it was before the final four sometime

I'm glad they both got it...

because they really are inseperable. Grevis is Gary’s Venezuelan avatar.

Congrats to both..

obviously well deserved, and it would have been a smack in the face had they not won. Congrats to Jordan too, exceeded expectations of all. Keep it up boys!

Congratulations to Gary and Greivis. Glad to see them get the honor over Ratface and Schyerface.

Well deserved to both of these guys.

Great job in the regular season and good luck in the postseason guys!
