More high-quality footage of the riot. Thanks to Ben W., who shot the footage, Chase H., who emailed me the original link, and Mr MaLoR, who had the YouTube link, which I'll use because it's embeddable.
Great video work here. Some very revealing scenes in it. And though the entire video is worth watching and I'm sure I missed some stuff, two moments stuck out to me: the police arrest and take down someone who's walking away at about 5:20, and two or three go at a kid with night sticks when he was balled up on the ground at about 8:15.
Wasn't there, and I haven't seen anything out of the police department yet, but I think it's safe to say excessive force was used.

Oye
That one kid at 8:15 got rocked.

The university published a statement that said they will take disciplinary action against active participants of the riot.
Time for PG Police to step forward and take corrective action against those brutal cops. This is now the THIRD time I’ve witnessed police brutality on campus. First two situations were an individual cop harassing an individual female student. Now this is several cops attacking several students. Shit’s gotta stop.
Filing a Complaint
I emailed Paul Dillon (UMD Police Chief) regarding police brutality at the 5:20 and 8:15 marks in the video above. He emailed me back explaining that the officers in the video were from PG County and therefore, he had no authority to investigate their actions. He did provide me with a link to a file a complaint with PG Country Police. If you were on Route 1 Wednesday night and saw any brutality go down, I encourage you to fill out the form and send it in.

THIS VIDEO will be on channel 9 at 5!
Getting the word out!!!!
sad thing this happened. you should have seen problems with the national guard and pg police back in 70, 71 and 72 when we were protesting the vietnam war on campus. far more intense.
They had a very interesting photo exhibit about that up in McKeldin this year. It might still be there.
on the war protest? interesting. one thing i’ll tell you, it was a remarkable experience to go through. from the troops being stationed at ritchie right behind my frat house to the army manuvers on campus and the helicopters flying at night with very bright spotlghts and loudspeakers telling us the campus was on a 8pm to 6am curfew.. military police dogs attacking kids. tear gas everywhere. it was “far out”!
