Maryland-Duke Gameday Guide
Where: Comcast Center, College Park, MD
When: 9pm
Where to Watch: ESPN (!!!!!)
Line: KenPom: Duke by 3.
Notes: Likely the most important game ever played in the Comcast Center. Operation Scheyerface 3.0. Gold rush (that means wear gold). Greivis Vasquez's senior night. Will be for a share of the ACC title.
Keys in Cliches:
- Keep Duke Off the Boards: Duke beat Maryland for a lot of reasons last time, but a major one was rebounding. The Dookies got 23 second chance points, and that's just unacceptable. Keep Duke from gobbling up their misses and turning them into points.
- Make Shots Available: Duke is good defensively, but they will give up open shots, and it's up to Maryland to hit them. I said in the game recap of the first time around that any other day, "Maryland would've shot 50% from the field and 50% from deep." Those same opportunities will be available. Hit them.
- Stay in Check Emotionally: Perhaps the most frustrating thing about the last lost is that Maryland wasn't that far away. They had the shots - they didn't hit them. They dribbled the ball off their leg. They didn't box out. Their focus waned. This team can beat Duke. We know it - they just have to do it. To do that, they'll need to be focused and keep their emotions from overrunning them. I want Greivis Vasquez to be pumped, but I certainly hope that he doesn't take his senior night too seriously.
Graph:
Prediction: Yikes. I want Maryland to win this game more than any other I can remember other than the Natty, but at the same time, I just don't believe it right now. Duke by 3. It pains me to write that, and I know plenty of people that will disagree with me. I completely understand your points, but I worry over the possibilty that Vasquez goes into overdrive too early and that it simply never clicks after such a strong stretch.
(Ah, screw it. Maryland by 4).

hahaha love your prediction
things just seem to be falling in place this year…the buzzer beater, the come from behind wins, the 2OT win on the road…idk, it’s weird, i want us to win real badly, and i can’t see us losing…lets go!
btw kids are already lining up
Lining up
Are they definitely already lining up? I’m a student and was planing on going around 2 this afternoon, but i may have to go a little earlier if the line already started.
its just a handful of die hards
i seriously doubt enough ppl would start lining up NOW. i expect the line to grow around 12
Local blackout on ESPN??
In the past the ESPN feed for MD/Duke has been subject to blackout and UPN20 has carried the game. Some contract they have with the ACC in ACC locales. I can’t find anything online to figure out if that will be the case tonight or not. Anyone know anything about this?
Lining Up?
People started lining up at midnight…I just got done with my shift (5-8 am) and there are probably about 100 students already on line.
Terrapin Nation has spoken! Maryland will win tonight!
Gary Williams for President!
Jordan Williams freshman Manbeast
Can't wait to be at this game!
The older gold nike jersey came in last night and I’m pumped for the game. Is it 9pm yet as I can’t wait to get there!! GO TERPS!! First ever Dook vs MD game and nothing would make it more enjoyable than a WIN! BTW Doug Gottlie (sp?) said Zubeck should dominate us again on the board….GO J WILL and Milbourne!
Got a confession.
Last year I was at Fe after the Duke game. Saw someone who I thought was Braxton Dupree, and said, "You played great a game today.
Guy says, “Nah, I didn’t play today. Next year, baby, next year.”
Kid was J-Dub. And next year is here.
LEEEEE’GOOOOOOOOO!
In the movie Love and Death (1975) written, directed and starring the brilliant Woody Allen, a Russian sergeant speaks to the troops before the upcoming war with Napoleon and French.
Sergeant: If they kill more Russians, they win. If we kill more Frenchmen, we win.
I’ve looked at the stats in conference games and in overall games, and I don’t see a lot of difference between Duke and Maryland. So Wednesday night if Duke scores more points than Maryland they win. If Maryland scores more points than Duke, we win.
Duke shoots a lot of 3’s but Maryland makes a better percentage of 3’s. Duke gives up less points per game but Maryland has a better defensive fg % figure than Duke. Both teams handle the ball well and like to run on offense. Duke is the superior rebounding team. In my opinion rebounding is where the game will be won or lost. Can Maryland stop Duke’s 2nd chance opportunities? I would think a lot of Duke’s 3 point shots originate from offensive rebounds. The defense has converged in the paint after the shot…Duke gets the board and kicks it out to an open shooter on the perimeter for the 3. Maryland has not done a good job blocking out all year. You don’t have to be big to block out. Stopping Duke’s second chance scoring opportunities is the key to victory.
But the reality is…If Duke scores more points than Maryland, the Blue Devils win. If Maryland scores more points than Duke, the Terps win.
Students lining up
I would be there already, but I can’t miss my classes (quizzes) and lose participation points…ugh if only I had taken an easy schedule of classes this semester!
Is the line really that long? And are they all lining up for group 1?
Josh Selby
Lol insidemdsports has an exclusive just up about his recruitment
Nice job Broman for beating them to the punch about. Keep up the great work!!!
We’re gonna demolish Dook tonight! Go terps!
lol at word2bigbird
Why you hating on IMS? It’s a completely different site than Testudo Times and for the record I read about Josh Selby visiting UMD on that site before it was here. Their new update is different than what was reported here but this site isn’t really reporting anything, its getting info from what another person on Scout.com reported.
yeah
said it multiple times, we are extremely different sites and offer extremely different things. Not one or the other. Have nothing but love for ermann and co., and I’ll be the first (well, second) to say I didn’t do any reporting on this.

Guess what...
the exclusive on IMS is about how Selby IS NO LONGER COMING TO THE GAME TONIGHT.
His mother made a statement that she got a call about another recruit coming tonight for an official visit and the coaches didn’t want Selby to overshadow him.
Once Again, SELBY IS NO LONGER COMING TONIGHT.

I miss standing in line for tickets
I agree, if they take smart shots and hit them, they shouldn’t lose…….and please no Brian Zoubeck sightings tonight, thank you.

As an '03 graduate ...
I miss the days of standing in line FOR TICKETS. During the nat’l championship season, I stood in front of Cole in the freezing cold all night, only to have them run out of tickets when I was about 30 people away from the ticket window. But, later that year, I won the student lottery for the Regionals in Syracuse and the Final Four in Atlanta. I considered it karma.
ESPNU College Basketball podcast, March 2
Jump to the 20th min and listen to last 15 min. GW talking about Maryland. And ESPN SINGING our praises. It is BEAUTIFUL sweet music to a terp fan’s ears.
Sadly, I think Duke wins convincingly
By 8 or 9 points. We just haven’t been able to match up well against them at all the last three years; I don’t know what the problem is.
That said, I’m hoping for a twelve-point Maryland win. Go Terps and Duck Fuke, as it were.
Is Jerry Angelo fired yet?
Is Vinny Del Negro fired yet?
Also, if (when) the Terps do win
I approve of a Testudotimes ban for anyone who is there and rushes the court. I hope the fans act like they’ve been there before (because they have) and not be fully embarrassing. But I doubt it.
Is Jerry Angelo fired yet?
Is Vinny Del Negro fired yet?
In what way is it embarassing?
It is commonplace in college basketball when an upset occurs. Number 22 upsetting number 3 is a big upset.

We should never consider a home win an upset. We are Maryland. We have a national championship, two final fours, a great coach, a great team, a great tradition. No win at Comcast is an upset.

Thanks for wording it much better than I could, nmprisons
Is Jerry Angelo fired yet?
Is Vinny Del Negro fired yet?
Rushing the court is acceptable tonight
I understand the argument that we should act like we’ve been there before, but beating the #3 team in the nation is huge, especially with the ACC regular season championship implications. I would only say it’s reasonable if we were facing a top-5 team, which we are.
It depends on the finish
If we get another Cliff Tucker ending then just try and keep the students in their seats. If we win by around 5+ and it’s stretched out with fouls and free throws then I don’t think a court rush is appropriate. We have to shake this ACC stepchild thing and start acting like we belong with the big boys.
Doubt, indulged and cherished, is in danger of becoming denial; but if honest, and bent on thorough investigation, it may soon lead to full establishment of the truth.
-Ambrose Bierce
I see both sides
I don’t quite remember but back then fans would rush the court in 03 or 04, it made me cringe since we were only a season or 2 removed from winning the natty.
3 NIT trips later, I am happy to be in this position that we are in right now. We def have fallen off, and If any one thinks that we have been elite after the natty, well, you are kidding yourselves.
That said, I don’t think rushing the court would be too bad if its a dramatic finish.
Check out the front page of
Spells out “M” and other areas spell “5,” “1,” and “21”
Yo?? Hey crazy
Duke 81 – 67 sorry bout our luck

Who said rushing the court was a bad idea regardless?
Kudos to you.
