Lets post nice things about each other so we feel better
I’ll start-Ben B you did a great job with the blog all season, seriously, great job guy. And amoskowski, I’ve always admired your hopeful spirit.
Ben B
Dude — you run the absolute best SBNation blog I have ever seen. True story.
I'll keep the trend going
wmterp, I don’t know how old you are, but I get the feeling you’re that ultra-wise old sensei that just seems to know everything. If you’re not, at least you’re a really smart guy.
w2bb, half the stuff you post seems terribly inappropriate, but I always laugh.
tiim, I’ve never seen a more passionate fan.
Ben, thanks for the very kind remarks. Just so you know, I am older than dirt (to borrow a phrase) but still a diehard Terps fan.
Its a mutual admiration society. Dave, Ben G. and particularly you have done such a great job with the blog. Personally, you’ve increased my knowledge and enjoyment of Maryland athlectics. It is great to see that you’ve passed 1 million visitor mark…what a milestone. Testudo Times deserves to be synonymous with Maryland athletics.
Very much appreciated
Don’t tell the others, but I think you’re my favorite.
And thank you for the kind words. It’s reasons like these that I drag myself to my desk every day.
i know i dont post much
but im always on this site, thanks ben b

I don't know what to feel right now
I’m so proud of the team and what they were able to accomplish this year, but at the same time I am so crushed. At least we have a great season to look back on and memories for ourselves- even if we will never be recognized by anyone else.
No recognition -- That part hurts, doesn't it?
I feel like we just keep flying under the radar — that would have been one of the best comebacks in tournament history and Greivis deserves so much more credit than he ever will receive … but it’s just another loss despite all that effort and clawing back against all odds
That sucked
I woulda rather have lost by 20 than have that feeling of victory snatched out of our hands in 6.6 seconds. What a gut wrenching loss. I really have nothing else to say. This just sucked.
Why is it that we seem to inspire a guy to shoot absurdly from the 3 every year we are in the tournament?
With the 18th pick of the 2010 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select Florida QB Tim Tebow. (not a RB!)
Ben- great job with the blog. Top notch.
Sigh… Greivis… Eric… Landon… three great Terps players who got robbed.
Gary cant have more than maybe 6 years left in him, its really sad to see that our best chance had to end like this.
Ive tried to cope with it many ways, and this is the best way I can think about it:
next year:
JWill (we know hell dominate)
Bowie( whose had a sweet stroke lately, and whos really improved)
Mosley
Tucker (whos coming alive)
Mychal Parker (hopefully hell be good)
Stoglin (he has all the tools)
MVPe (he has the desire)
We wont be as good as this year… but we will be still good.
Just sucks to have to see Greivis off in this way.
I hope you're right.
There are just a lot of unknowns about next year with three starters graduating.

next year
I agree completely with your assessment of the team going into the next season. But we will lack the big-time scorer we had this year, thus putting us in a pretty deep hole as far as making a run.
I think by the time Williams is a senior we will be a top team in the nation again, once Parker and Stoglin and whoever else we get in the next few years (Cook? Hopkins?) develop. But that’s, sadly, a long way away.
We have much to be proud of this season. And even though we had a disappointing result, we know we improved a lot this season regardless. I’m sure none of us, me included, will ever forget that Duke win or that Georgia Tech buzzer beater. Hopefully Gary and the Terps don’t either.
I dont know if JWill will stay four years
he can def go pro after his junior maybe even sophomore year.
4 year player
He’s definitely a 4 year player. Unless he improves exponentially every year and gets more athletic.
optimistic
I’d like to stay optimistic.
Offensively, we are always a balanced scoring team in the flex offense.
If we can get better at rebounding, then that should solve a lot of our problems.
Stoglin and Parker are supposed to be scorers, so hopefully that will offset the loss of Vasquez, Hayes, and Milbourne.
I'll have a hard time
trying to look ahead to next season for quite a while. This season had so many great moments, not the least of which was winning the ACC regular-season title. But because of those moments, this team seemed almost destined to do something special in the tournament. It saddens me that the seniors were on the cusp of that and lost it on a shot by an ordinarily lousy shooter.
I root for whoever dons a Terps jersey, and when whoever is on the team the next time they reach the Sweet 16 or beyond, I’ll be cheering like crazy. But that’s the benefit of being a fan—there’s always a next year. I wish the same were true for Greivis, Eric, and Landon.

I was considering doing a post about the great moments of this year, but I don't think I can anymore
It’ll hurt too much considering how it ended.
In a week or so, though, I am going to do a 3-parter (yes, I chose that for a reason) about GV’s career.
definitely not ready to move on
It doesn’t feel real yet. No greivis? no eric? no landon? We’ve all had our beef with every single one of them at some point in time and I’ve seen a lot of great players come and go at Maryland, but at this moment in time I cannot imagine the team without all three of them. Ultimately, some of the most lovable players us turtles have ever had the privilege of admiring.

I'm still not sure how to react
Normally when one of my teams loses I freak out. I tend to get very angry, and its never good. I throw stuff, slam stuff, yell stuff, and do other things of that nature. Yet, for this loss, I believe I’m still stunned. I didn’t yell, i threw nothing, i just didn’t have a reaction. I just sat down, nd that was kind of it. I just feel crushed, but i’m still unsure of how to actually react to what happened. All I know is that Korie Lucious killed a part of me, a part that will have to wait a long time to recover.
Lost in this game but NEEDS to be remembered
Greivis Vasquez ended up with more points as a Terp than ANYONE except Juan Dixon.
That is incredible.
Trying to find a silver lining, Izzo is a stand-up guy
Tom Izzo is a great, non-sleazeball coach, if we had to have an incredibly painful loss, at least it was to a coach I respect a great deal.
Who am I kidding. This is the lowest I’ve felt in years.
I fully agree with you
had this loss been to Kentucky I would have been frustrated knowing that the guy who shot the game winner was probably given help on the SAT to come or something. MSU is a classy program. But it still hurts.
+1
williams (roy type) calipari, huggins, calhoun etc I would be more angry/bitter. At least a respect Izzo.

Words of inspiration
Sorry for posting this twice, but this thread seemed to be the most appropriate location for it.
As a Buffalo native and die-hard Bills and Sabres fan who is a 2003 graduate of UMD, I have the unique distinction of enduring more than my fair share of devastating losses. After one of the Bills’ many heartbreaking losses, the Bills HOF coach Marv Levy quoted from a poem about a Scottish warrior. I think the words are appropriate for our Terps today:
"‘Fight on my men,’ Sir Andrew said, ‘a little I’m hurt, but not yet slain.
I’ll just lie down and bleed a while. Then I’ll rise to fight again.’"
A sincere thanks to the Terps, especially our three seniors, for a great season and to Gary Williams, who will always be one of my favorite people in the world.

Good work man. Tough loss but a valient effort nonetheless
You are the man, I wish to have your job one day (only 15)
Ill be rooting for the underdogs from here on out.
Being a MD fan has always led me to do so. We’ve always been disrespected, underappreciated, and whatnot.
Its sad to see such potential robbed from us. But… well… the Terps will be back eventually. Maybe next year, maybe the year after that. But we will be back, and we will storm the nation.
Ill repost the Tertelmans quote, because it is truly inspiring:
“‘Fight on my men,’ Sir Andrew said, ‘a little I’m hurt, but not yet slain.
I’ll just lie down and bleed a while. Then I’ll rise to fight again.’”
stepping up
anyone watch Bowie decide to step to the free throw line when Korie pulled the three instead of getting in his face… I can only think if MSU called a timeout Cliff would have been pulled and Mosely, the most physical defender on this team would have never allowed a wide open jumpshot with 1.6 seconds after your TEAMMATE did everything he could to fight over a screen.
I saw that but...
I’m thinking he wanted to prevent the drive and thought milbourne had the top of the arch covered.
Also note that Mich State didn’t take a time out, so Gary didn’t have a chance to set something up. Maybe they would have done a half press or full press to prevent a good shot. Kudos to Mich State for pushing the ball up right away.
You do make a good point, but I wouldn’t be too harsh on Bowie. He’ll make up for it next year.
No one
picked Lucious up his entire run down the court.

Man...
I havent been this depressed about a game…..shoot this is the most i ever been depressed about a game.
Greivis Vasquez has contributed a lot to Maryland!!!
Great to hear he accomplished a lot, we’ll never forget all the games he played in, that VT 2OT, Beating #4 Duke on senior night, When we beat #3 UNC last year. He’s been a vital part my Maryland experience…and it’s spring cheer up guys, I have a feeling our football team is going to do exceptionally well next year.
football is nice but basketball is all that matters to me.

The way I've started to recover
is imagining the healing process:
Jordan Williams has a sensational junior year, makes a few All-American teams, and is widely expected to go pro. But he doesn’t. “I have a score to settle,” he says in the press conference announcing his return. Quinn Cook and Mikael Hopkins are sophomores at the time, and Pe’Shon Howard and Terrell Stoglin are juniors.
Maryland has a trademark up and down season, but earns a 3 seed. Jordan wins ACC player of the year. In the second round, they meet six seed Michigan State. Jordan Williams goes for 23 and 19 in an easy win. After easily dispatching a random 2 seed, the Terps meet Duke in the Elite Eight and win in a nailbiter.
The first game in the Final Four, which is in Washington, D.C., is against John Calipari’s Oregon Ducks (it is discovered that John Wall received money directly from Calipari’s bank account, but Nike paid him a heavy sum to coach Oregon before the scandal was discovered). Terrence Ross happens to be the Ducks’ starting SG. Pe’Shon Howard has 23 points that day, and posterized Ross on a fastbreak dunk. Meanwhile, TRoss doesn’t score in Maryland’s 15 point win.
Then they play UCONN and Jim Calhoun, Gary’s mortal enemy, in the championship. Williams has 17, Howard 14, and Cook 12 and 11 assists. Maryland wins on a last second shot by Stoglin falling away. Williams and Williams hug at center court, tears streaming from both’s eyes, finding redemption. Greivis Vasquez, who was named an honorary assistant coach for the game, runs onto the court, playing the part of Jim Valvano, looking for someone to hug.
After the game, Gary announces his retirement. Maryland fans recognize him as one of the greatest coaches ever, and he is inducted into the Hall of Fame the following year. Rob Ehsan is named head coach. Calhoun retires a week later, and everyone knows that in the final battle of Good vs. Evil, Good won.

If only
And after Rob Ehsan takes over, 4 5-star recruits immediately give their commitments to don MD uniforms.
So you're THAT GUY
You know when your team plays it’s heart out and falls just a little bit short. Whether it’s a pickup game, intramural championship, our let’s just say NCAA tournament.
When everyone is down and emotionally spent and in shock, there is always THAT GUY who pours salt on the wound?
Well, congrats, you’re THAT GUY.
Thanks Terps for a great season and THANK YOU GARY WILLIAMS, for recruiting Vasquez, Hayes and Milbourne. I will miss them all.
Wow bud, you took me a bit too literally
if youve read any of the past stuff Ive written, I love Gary more than any other coach in America. In no way was I trying to criticize Gary’s job recruiting. I love Gary as our coach, and no one defines Terrapin pride more so than he does. And I dont know many people that love MD and the Terps more than I do.
I was making a half sarcastic comment, and obviously you didnt catch my jist.
So… I guess youre THAT GUY, who jumps to conclusions. THAT GUY. Sheesh
sorry THAT GUY,
i love gary too and i’m super defensive about him. Could you give me a break just this one time. I’m still recovering from that last dagger : (
mosley, certainly one of our best defenders and rebounders, sat for all but 14 minutes while we got lit up from the floor and on the boards. Whatever though..i dont think anything could have won us that game. it just wasnt going to happen.
i mean we went on a 10-0 run in 40 seconds...

That's a great way to put it
Really makes it hit you.
Actually, it was more like 70 seconds, but still…
my realization is i have nothing to look forward to now, I just wish we could’ve won that one. I have a feeling next year is going to be the year of the turtle. Mark my words, it may not seem like we will have talent but trust me, I’m calling an amazing season next year.
I don't like the talk of a "curse" on us.
We have a very good team. We have won ACC titles, a national championship, ACC regular season titles, and have had great athletes and coaches to cheer for. We are among the top 20 all decade team. I think we shouldn’t complain we don’t win more games, just enjoy what we have and root like hell for our Terps. There are a lot of other teams and fans that would gladly trade basketball programs with us. Today we weren’t playing very well for 39 minutes, that is why we lost. There was no curse.
What's this curse talk?

In my opinion
all the people that are coming back for next year will play extremely pissed and I think they will play like they have something to prove.
great thought
After a few days when this loss settles in, Bowie, Williams, & Tucker will be pissed. This will drive them to work extra hard in the offseason. Vasquez taught these guys what it takes to be a winner, fearless competitor. Watch the Terps start strong in the beginning of the year. One of these guys will step up to be the man and with the young talent coming in, they will definitely be back in the Big Dance next year.
Future is Bright
Maryland had a great season. Co-ACC Champions, one loss at home, a tournament win, ACC POY AND COY, beat Duke, beat Tech on buzzer-beater, five quality recruits (Stoglin will be a star), big man for three more years, and a rejuvinated fan base, and one very tough loss.
But WE WILL BE BACK BABY!
horrible heartbreaking defeat. congrats to msu. they won. they shot 55% from the field, 56% from 3 and out rebounded maryland by 13 or so. the truth is you need to play hard for 40 min in a 40 min game. maryland came out slow, with little emotion and little intensity. just a tough loss but how in the world do you give msu an open look for the last shot. msu had a million open looks all day but on that last shot gregory and milbourne made half ass efforts on defense. i wrote yesterday..don’t look ahead and it seems like md had already put this game in the win column and had illusions of grandeur in regards to the final 4.
We were only up 1
In that situtation, only up 1 you make them beat you with a jump shot. They couldn’t give up the lane for a lay-up or close look. Granted they could have challenged the shot better, but Lucious made a ballsy play by taking a dribble with the clock running down. It worked, he got the shot off. He easily could have screwed himself with that dribble by running out the clock. MD got beat by a great play, no regrets. He hit the shot.
UNC Wilmington, wasn't it?

the only way i can recover
is by having Ali Forokhmanesh dagger MSU the same way they did to us!!!
that will be sweet vengeance.
Please please someone make a recap video of our season and post on Youtube. I want to relive all the great moments.
obviously I am posting this to help myself feel better in an effort to alleviate some of the pain I know all of Terps Nation is feeling, but here it goes: I agree with b_wangrin, a fantastic season this year, 3 great seniors who we all will miss, but Adrian Bowie played great later part of the season and was rewarded with more playing time, I believe Cliff Tucker will emerge in the starting role, Jordan Williams freshman of the year runner-up, Sean Mosely offers a little bit of everything and offensively he will continue to improve, AND we have a great recruiting class coming in….thank you Greivis, Eric and Landon, you will be missed, but I know we will see you in the stands during a future win over Duke at the Comcast Center you will be missed but never forgotten!!!
I don't ever want to watch a replay of the last minute of that game but....
if I did, I would be expecting him to miss that freakin shot in the end, and everything would be all better.
As a fan
you felt a bond with this team and as fans we have gone through a lot with those 3 seniors. And with they finally exorcised the demons that gilchrist and mccray and those guys had created. And for them to go out that way is just not right.

Sorry, it is just that my brother is always doubting his teams, just so he won't be disappointed.
i think that is a sucky outlook.
Been lurking for a while, but will post now. This game hurt, but only because our beloved team fought their guts out (so I’m a Redskins fan too) getting back in the game, Mich State was crazy accurate from 3 today. But Greivis hit some hellacious shots in the end and I thought we were going to pull it out and sing the Victory Song. I haven’t loved a Maryland team much more than the one I had the pleasure to see this year (2002 grad), these guys battled till the end and I’m proud to be a Maryland supporter. I think this year was the year I didn’t say to myself, “I thought Cole Fieldhouse was more electrifying.” Comcast was amazing this year. I love GV, Eric, and Landon and heck, this is not the first time Maryland ran into some ridiculously hot shooting (think Blake’s freshman against UCLA), but this team fought back so hard and I am so damn proud. I will never forget Cliff Tucker’s 3, GV’s shots where you thought, “no, that’s awful, wait, it was good, great shot”, Hayes draining threes, Landon battling his heart out even though he was way undersized as a 4, and of course, beating Dook at home and hearing how fired up everyone in the arena was outside the student section (because they are always awesome). Thanks for a great year, Terps.
I'm kind of at the same point right now
Back to listening to mash-ups and Yeasayer. There will be a big hole in my life until October, when we can starting looking forward to basketball again.
In a strange way, though, this loss gave me a lot more appreciation for Greivis, Gary, and Maryland basketball as a whole.
Kind of weird looking back through the GameThread again, especially some of the pre-game stuff (why were we rambling on about how great Gus Johnson is?). I can’t believe I was so happy just a few hours ago. I do like those massive GameThreads, though, we need to get these going again next season.
I'm trying to look forward but it just makes me depressed.
Right now I am a sophomore at MD. Have a seen the peak of Maryland Athletics already? Will the next two years pale in comparison to this season? If so, it is sad. I won’t be able to witness Williams’s entire career at MD if he decides to stay for a senior year.
I just feel like I may have seen the best of Maryland basketball in my time as a student here and if so I’m really sad to see it go.

The guys at Draysbay get into a lot of statistics, but also post about a variety of topics. I have grown up with GV, EH, and LM during college
i came into MD the same year they did. I saw my first live college basketball game at MD freshman year. So in a sense i grew up with all 3 seniors. I’ve been with them through the ups and downs. I really thought this year would be special. I wanted to end senior year with a bang. Sweet 16 would’ve done that. I just can’t believe it had to end like this. It is bittersweet. It feels like a great injustice has been committed. We played our hearts out the final 5 minutes and it was in vain. I dont know if i can ever be as big of a fan of MD basketball as i have during my 4 years here. MD basketball will always mean GV in a MD uniform to me. Not seeing him will feel so foreign, so weird. It was a great season. ACC POY, ACC COY, and a ACC Championship banner. I guess i did go out with a bang. Just not as I expected. Thank you seniors. I will miss you and the impact you had on my life these 4 years. May you all be successful in the future.
Open three, did any one see this????
When I watched the replay, I saw Bowie leave his man (Locious) he had been guarding him the last 5 mins of the game. and go double the ball.. why, why, why… in my opinion , major mistake… I don’t remember who had the ball, but I don’t believe they were going to beat us. We had the ball of his (Locious) hands, so why leave him. One pass to him and bang game and season over…..
Ouch
I’ll admit it, I cried. It was just such a great comeback and GV did everything you can expect one person to do in the final stretch. The team showed so much heart at the end only to have their hopes crushed at the last second. One of the toughest losses I have ever had to endure. I don’t know if I’ll ever fully recover. I will say, however, that I could not be any prouder of this team if they had gone on and won the NC. Sure, I’d be happier about the ultimate results but the way they fought and the heart they showed in the last two minutes… I can’t ask for anything more. Thanks to all of my beloved terps for a truly memorable season. I have so enjoyed watching them play.

How to you make a video with clips from ESPN, raycom and others so that you can mix all of them into like a highlight reel?
You'll need a video editor, all the clips on your hard drive, and then you'll need to edit them into a video
It’s a bit tough to explain if you’ve never done it before.
CRUSHING
There is no other way to describe this loss. This is worse than the “Minute from He!!” against Dook, worse than the the Final Four Loss that same year to Dook, worse than the 40 point massacre. For no other reason than the finality of what this loss means. It truly is so much more than a last second loss. It is losing, if not one of the greatest players in Maryland’s history, losing a player than made you feel that he wanted to win so bad, not only for himself, but for MARYLAND, and what that means to him and to all of us. Greivis will go down as my favority player of all time, not for what he did or did not accomplish, but simply because he loved Maryland as much as we all do.

Otherwise it’d be worse than this. And he’d probably have to score the GWG.

No, really though, remember when we all said “this is Sean Mosley’s team next year?” I don’t think any of us expected Jordan to be this good, nor realized how much GV did. It’ll be Jordan’s team, no doubt about it.
Little guys get you wins in conference games, but in March you need everything. You don’t win a natty w/o a big man. And Maryland has one. Now we need the guards, which are a lot easier to find.

The 2010 Team
will be BETTER then this season’s team! Vasquez, Hayes, Milbourne out, but Stoglin, Howard, Parker & Pankey are in and this gives me GREAT hope! Stoglin will replace Vasquez’ scoring and will also be a good assist maker; Parker is already > Milbourne and Howard can replace Hayes with his scoring and passing; Pankey gives the Terps a great rebounder and defender. So, I expect the 2010 Terps to be even BETTER then this season’s. THE TERPS WILL WIN THE ACC AGAIN IN 2010!
Parker
I’m not going to believe parker > milbourne. milbourne is a great player. he has earned my respect more than someone who hasnt even played a minute for Maryland

But that's the thing with legends
at some point, their career is over. And that’s a good thing. People are always waiting for the next Greivis Vasquez, and that is a mistake. Why would we want the 2nd Vasquez when we can have the first Terrell Stoglin or the first Mychal Parker?
No one will replace him. But someone has to take his place. Will they reach the bar that Vasquez set or will they set it even higher?

"Replacing" Vasquez
There is no such thing as replacing Greivis Vasquez. I’ve never seen a player in college play like him — a point guard who was so big and so multi-faceted. We forget he was the team’s leading rebounder last season! He had many holes in his game — over-dribbling, head-scratching turnovers and erratic play — but he is unforgettable and an all-time great for his offense, defense, his clutch play, his leadership and so much more.
The next Greivis will not come in this class (most likely). The next Greivis probably doesn’t even exist. All we can ask from the upcoming class are a few guys who can carry some of the load offensively, play their hearts out on both ends of the floor, in addition to maybe someone who can grab a freaking rebound. We have some pieces and if we had had a better recruiting class when Mosely was a freshman (in addition to Sugar we got Goins and Choi … neither of whom played) we may be looking at a completely different season right now. Or, imagine if we didn’t completely whiff on Dupree (the top rated recruit in our Bowie/Dino/Tucker class) or if Burney had ever been healthy enough to be a monster post player…
Hey Ben, do you have any jerseys?

Ladies and gentlemen, we have located it!
And when Williams showed up sporting a wide, white headband on opening night, there was more concern. “I never talked with him about it, but the good thing is that he took it off himself,” Gary Williams said of the headband, which hasn’t been seen since the second half of the West Virginia game.
Said Walt Williams: “It wasn’t a big deal. I just decided I didn’t need it.”
And, of course, he took it with him to the NBA after Gary disallowed it

I know in the tournament, you just have to beat whoever you’re up against if you want to advance, but I get more perturbed about today’s game when I think about a team like Tennessee. They beat San Diego St. and Ohio to get to the Sweet 16. If the Terps had played NMSU, I feel confident we’d be talking about Northen Iowa right now. There’s an element of luck needed to advance in the tournament—whether it be seeding, upsets, or within a single game—and unfortunately, the Terps had none of the three this year.

And so it goes...
I get the sense that most posters are fairly young so maybe lack a little perspective. Let me offer some:
(1) The story of basketball is of last-second shots to win or lose; we’ve seen them both. The wins are glorious and this, well… this too shall pass.
(2) This year’s team was a good one. Not a great one, but a good one. And good ones don’t go to the Final Four—I’m sorry.
(3) There is nothing in sports like the great, 4-year basketball player. Savor it. He starts out nervous and too thin for the uniform, eyes going everywhere, arms flailing, shots too strong or too soft. And year after year they bloom and die, bloom and die. Greivis was the rare one who come to full blossom at the end. Hitting what should have been a game-winning shot in his very last day in the uniform.
Those are the guys you live for. The ones it just kills to say goodbye to. And the worse it hurts, the better they must have been.
So the end of Greivis is really only the end of Greivis. There will be more. Some will arrive with great fanfare, like Steve Francis, who rode into Cole like the Second Coming. Some will explode out of nowhere, like Joe Smith, who came anonymous, bald and dominating against Georgetown in his very first game. Some will make you love them slowly, like a certain skinny orphan from Baltimore who brought us all to tears in 2002. And the rafters will fill with their jerseys.
There is always—always—next year.

Thing that stinks though is..
Theres always a next year for the fans, but theres not always a next year for some of the players.
That is the sad part. Vasquez will keep playing in the NBA. But guys like Hayes and Burney are probably done playing competitive basketball.

Funny, pro basketball in Ireland
is a step down from amateur basketball in America.

Hayes will play in Europe somewhere
But the point remains. It’s just sad to see players’ college careers end like this.
But with the end of their careers
comes the beginning of new ones. I can’t wait to see what Stoglin and Parker have to offer our great program. We’ve had some great ones walk through Gary’s doors. Here’s to hoping that they are the next ones.

I don't have a stamp
but I approve of your post, KnoxBox. Well said.
I’m 31, though, so I don’t think I fall into the younger crowd you mentioned. I know there’s always next year for us fans—and there are highs and lows in the seasons ahead we can’t even imagine—but there’s not a next year for the seniors, and that’s what makes a loss like today’s worse.
Nonetheless, Fear the Turtle.

True...
…and that is sad, but now Greivis is one of us. Look for him on the big screen of a future home game, maybe when his NBA team is in town to play the woeful Wiz. Hopefully with a big ass grin, some sharp clothes and a little bling on his wrist. Definitely making a VERY loud noise along with the rest of you nuts.
Knox - any qualms if I put this on the front page?
A lot of people aren’t going to read this thread tomorrow morning, but this is a great post and deserves to be read. I’d just put it in a FanShot and quote you.
Maryland basketball just hit the refresh button it seems like

My emotions are toying with me
This thread helped me to start to get over the game. Unfortunately, I can’t tell if I’m happy about that.
Losses like these are supposed to sting, they’re supposed to hurt. You’re not supposed to be able to, as Maryland Pride put it, hit the refresh button (at least not this quickly). I’m not condemning what we’ve done in this thread at all, because we all have real lives that take priority over sports. But a part of me is disappointed that I’m beginning the recovery process so quickly. This is a game that’s supposed to make you feel like crap for days later. You’re supposed to be uneasy heading into the next season. Because when you do, it makes the next big win all the sweeter.
This is like when people who just got beaten/raped/robbed play Nintendo DS for an hour and it blocks out what just happened from their memory. I don’t want that to happen, honestly – KnoxBox’s post and 214ever’s fanpost have me a bit ashamed that I so readily forsake how this loss could’ve shaped me and the program as a whole. It still hurts, don’t get me wrong, and still changed me as a fan, but not nearly as much as I feel it should.
At the same time, though, there’s a bit of a testament to the fanbase’s undying perseverance that we can rebound so quickly. It’s almost admirable. I’l sort of nice that we aren’t dying over it, and it’s the more “adult” way of looking at it. But anyone that watches sports, that lives and dies over it, has a lot of “kid” in them.
Maybe I feel conflicted because I don’t want Greivis’ career to end, but it’s almost like I’ve already accepted that. I just don’t want to.
I think I’m going backward through the grieving stages.
It hurts but the more we focus on this single loss
the more we lose sight of Greivis’s career (as well as Hayes’s and Milborne’s). The faster we move on from the sting of this loss, the better we can fully appreciate the WHOLE of these seniors’ career, rather than just the untimely end
By moving from this loss, we can put these great players’ careers into full perspective and fully appreciate the great contributions they have made to this great university.
We’ll never forget the angst of seeing that 3 pointer go in. I know I won’t. But it’s happened. It’s done. Greivis wouldn’t want us to focus on that. He’d want us to focus on the future, because though everything, Greivis has always placed the program over himself.

You're right though:
What I wouldn’t give for one more game of Vasquez in a MD uniform.

Move On
That game hurt. But, there is no use crying over spilt milk. Just wait until next season. It’s just sports. Life goes on.
The funny thing about sports fans in general is that your team will not realistically win the championship in any given year (ok, maybe the Yankees), yet we still cheer for our teams every game as if they’re #1. I can’t imagine a life without the high highs and low lows of being a sports fan. Being born in 1984 and not entirely conscious of the Redskins winning in 1987 and 1991, the Terps in 2002 are the only national championship team I’ve ever known. Even with all of the heartbreaking losses I’ve suffered through over the years, they all pale in comparison to the day we won our title. If we never get another one the Terps will still be #1 for me.
We'll be ok
BIG BEN, THANX again for this wonderful blog. W/ the exposure they’ve recieved and accomplishments from this year will pay off. Now GW and staff can focous on another fine recruiting class.
NEXT YEAR
1 bowie
2 mosely
3 tucker
4 gregory
5 j will
padge should get stronger and the 5 freshman should fill in nicely.
you posters are funny and great. cya football season
Watching Sportscenter this morning
wasn’t quite as much of a gut-punch as I’d expected. It was annoying, though, when they zoomed in on a replay of the last shot to show that Green’s pass to Lucious missed Roe’s head by about two inches. If Roe tries to catch that pass, the Terps win. Alas.
Looking back, I remember when the Terps made multiple trips to the Sweet 16 in the ‘90s how frustrating it was that they couldn’t get over the hump. The last few trips to the tournament, though, have shown how hard it can be to just make the Sweet 16 when you’re not a top seed. I don’t think this year’s Terps were less talented of a team than some of those ’90s teams.
