No! Never [went to anger management classes]. That’s not even close. Who would ever say that, besides Jim Calhoun?

He said that one time, when we were recruiting Donyell Marshall. It was in Reading, Pa., which is pretty close to Maryland. Jim Calhoun told people I was in anger management. Him, of all people, who has to leave not just this time, but many times during his career he’s had to come out for the second half of games, or miss games, where other coaches don’t do that. Anger management? Jim Calhoun? Who’s a bigger candidate, me or him?

Gary Williams, via ACC Sports Journal. h/t Patrick Stevens.

Gary doesn't like Calhoun, apparently.

I was reminded today

That Calhoun has been docked games by the NCAA before and so has Coach K. But while everyone brings up Calipari all the time, they do that because his games were Final 4 ones and people tend to forget the Calhoun and Coach K ones. Made me like Gary even more.

Plus, Calhoun pulled that recruiting crap with Rudy Gay

Imagine if we had him gotten him, before Calhoun stepped in and played his AAU team and essentially payed off his coach. I hate Calhoun and I 100% understand why Gary does too.

Speaking of recruits...

So what do you guys at TT think about Lance Stephenson in the NIT?
I’m not trying to run the guy down, I think he would have helped the Terps a lot this season. Maybe enough to help Maryland take sole possession of the ACC title? Maybe.
Do you guys think he regret his decision? I’m not sure he would have gotten the same minutes as Terps, but he’d get to showcase his talents in the NCAAs. (I had originally included gilchrist in this question, before I realized he would have had to sit out a year – hard to blame him for wanting to avoid that.)

It wasn't his decision

Maryland stopped recruiting him. So did essentially everyone else.

Calhoun is scum...

and Gary, while animated and firey, is as honest as they come. I’m not speaking of them personally, just professionally.

As for Lance, he may have given us a deciding factor in a few of the games we lost, but I think more then likely he would have disrupted the chemistry. I am pretty happy with the way things panned out this year and give our guys all the credit. I think the better question is if we knew we would have him for 2 years? Then, in my opinion, that’s a real conversation.

Maybe Lance Stephenson and Puss Gilcrist will play against each other in the NIT while the Terps are in the big dance.

Looks like Gary's starting to get more involved with the media

He never blew them off, but I definitely don’t remember him doing this many interviews.
