Rendezvous Inn anyone??
Just so everyone can be as annoyed as I am. ESPN writer Pat Forde listed College Park as the worst town in the ACC.
See link- http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=4899366
While I agree that College Park the town is a bit lackluster, calling the campus dull is quite an outrage. Also since I graduated in 2004, the town has made some improvements, although they aren't great in comparison to some other major state universities that I've visited. Finally, Forde listed the Rendezvous Inn as "the nastiest bar he's ever raised a glass in," which is fine, but I've never heard of it. Anyone know where's he's talking about, because next time I'm in town (which appears to be February 15th, rather than tomorrow) I'd like to get by there? Is it perhaps Town Hall Bar?

The Vous
Was next to Bentleys, on the corner of US 1 and Knox Rd. I spent 3 nights a week there in the early 80’s. It was a dive, but the atmosphere was electric.

The Vous
The Vous is now called Cornerstone Bar and Grill, located in the exact same spot. From the stories I have heard from older alumni, Cstone (as its oft abbreviated to) is step up from the Vous, which always had sticky floors and broken bottles. Having been in College Park for going on six years (undergrad, now grad school) and visited nearly ever other ACC town, I can say while College Park does not have the enthusiasm or atmosphere on an every-game basis as others do (Clemson for football, Duke/ Carolina for basketball come to mind), Maryland rocks just as hard, if not harder, for good games. I rioted twice for wins over Duke bball my freshman year: I dare you to find that at other ACC schools.

The Vous
It is kind of funny hearing it called by its full name, The Rendezvous Inn. It sounds like you could get a bed there. Ha Ha. The Vous in the 80’s was only upstaged in urine, beer and vomit soaked floors by the Cellar, that is also sadly gone. Not many bars left in College Park to hop through. Some good bands came through the The Paragon, which was the bar above the Cellar,Photo here back in the day. Robert Plant was even seen sipping beer at the 2nd floor bar.

Way to go Pat...
Glad to see your journalistic excellence. Now I admit I didn’t major in journalism but when you decide to right an inflammatory article about a town, I would think that your research should be more current than 1991 (I think that is when the Vous closed).
I mean I understand what he is saying, I will never be a Wizards fan because I hate US Air Arena.

Thanks for the clarification
Thanks for the replies everyone. Happy to learn that I did not miss a bar during my years, ‘00 to ’04, it was definitely Cstone then. I just couldn’t believe that I missed a bar in town.
I’m surprised nobody has listed EJ’s Landing – bar inside the Best Western at the corner of Rte 1 and Berwyn road. I remember many a night when I lived off campus walking over there…

the vous
i went to md from 89-94, some tough times and great times to be a hoops fan. anyway, for the younger crowd, the vous was unlike anything you have seen in the last 10yrs at md. thursdays, you could barely move. pitchers of bud and bud light were $2.50. there were tons of girls everywhere dancing on tables. the place was a million degrees. and there were the occassional fights. on a snow day, they would open their doors at 6am, and if you did not get there right away, there would be an hour line to get in. one yr, it was ranked as one of the top 10 college bars by playboy and high times.
as i grew older, i spent most of my time at bentley’s, but i will always have fun memories of the vous.

Sounds EXACTLY like Turtle.
Just saying. Current students and recent graduates know what I’m talking about.

There during the same 89-94 tenure
Thursdays were crazy, a lap took at least 1/2 hr to get through the crowd. The pitchers were gross but cheap. They even made front of the line passes to sell like it was a club. On code reds on snow days like today there were epic drinking fests until you crashed around 3pm…

Yeah, Turtle has "VIP" cards too.
I’d personally be embarrassed to have one of those.
