Should I be rooting for Duke?
Yes I agree, I uttered those God forsaken words. Here is my logic though. I despise Puke and UNC but it is very clear that Duke is in and UNC is on the bubble for the dance. If UNC wins, they will have a huge win against the best team in the ACC and would have a better chance of getting into the tournament. I would love to see them not make it.
If Duke wins the game against UNC, which chances are they will, Carolina will have another loss and will fall even further. Unfortunately when it comes to these two, all bets are off...If Duke loses however, it will make the ACC look weaker, along with themselves. I think Maryland has got a shot against Duke, especially at Comcast, and would love to see us beat them. I would rather beat them knowing that they beat UNC, because that would look better for us getting an ever so important "signature win." Duke would still be in the top 6 or so if they win until we play them, and it would just look good.
ON THE OTHER HAND, Duke is still ahead of us in the ACC and it was 8 years ago our championship team that was the last to win an ACC regular season title. I would love to have that on our resume and surely a Duke loss against the Tar Heels would help with that.
So the question is, Should I root for Duke on Wednesday when they go to UNC?
The question comes down to is spite really a pulling factor in watching UNC flounder? Never kick a man while hes down, but what if that mean beat the hell out of you while he was standing?

I say no, but I can see your logic
You’re right, a win over a really good Duke team would be huge. The downside is that for Maryland to have a good chance at an ACC regular season championship, Duke probably needs to lose at least one more time.
Those equal out to me. And though I can’t stand UNC and enjoy watching them fall to the dregs of the ACC, my Duke hatred is unrivaled. That tips the scales, IMO.
The Flipside of Hatred
If Duke loses to UNC, then chances are that they will be p*ssed and come out for our game with extra fire and determination. We want that?
On the other hand, if they win, maybe even in blow-out fashion, then maybe they get comfortable and complacent. Just a thought
Duke will come out full throttle against UMD regardless of what happens against UNC
The students have a fondness for Vaz…they will have the team geeked for the matchup

Best case scenario...
UNC pushes Duke to a very tiring 4 overtime game with Duke winning at the buzzer. This way Duke can have their motional let down (ala NC State after beating Duke) and it make them that much easier to beat.
A UNC Win Doesn't Hurt the ACC That Much
UNC – Duke is a big rivalry game. While Duke is clearly a favorite, a UNC upset would easily be chalked up to “the rivalry” and the cliche “you never know what can happen.” It won’t hurt Maryland’s chances at a bid.
The ACC is perceived to be down this year, but Maryland can earn a bid by winning the games they’re “supposed to win.” Winning on the road at FSU was huge. The Terps also need home wins over Virginia and Clemson. An upset over Duke, at home or on the road, would make it a lock and could cover for another conference loss.
So the moral of the story is continuing hating Duke. Don’t ever be deterred from that.
