Maryland Minute 2.08.10 - Monday Power Rankings & Bracketology

We got a loaded MM for you all today. Kudos to Ben B. for help on the links.

ACC Hoops Power Rankings - ACC Sports Journal

Terps come in at #3. I still think MD is the second best team in the ACC after Duke, but it's hard to argue being behind Wake after they won the head-to-head matchup.

ACC Power Poll - BetUS Locker Room

Numero tres, again.

Local Poll - D.C. Sports Bog

Number two behind Georgetown.  I still don't understand why a Terps/Hoyas matchup doesn't happen every season.

Star-divide

Bubble Watch on the Terps: Should Be In

Provided they keep winning ACC games, of course.

Lunardi Has Maryland In, an 8

Honestly, I'd rather be a 10 than an 8.

Jerry Palm Has Maryland as a 9

Against Dayton, Kentucky in the second round. Doesn't sound like Sweet 16 potential there.

My Take: If you put a gun to my head today, I'd say we end up with a 4 or 5 seed.

SBN Bracketology Puts Maryland as a 9 Seed

I won't complain about that. Safely back in.

Polls Updated: Maryland On the Periphery

Terps are 29th in the AP, 32nd in the USA Today. If they split their next two, I think they'll see a very slight rise, probably not enough to get into the rankings just yet.

James Franklin a Top 25 Recruiter, Per Rivals

I'd have to agree, this haul was ridiculous. Imagine what he can do with a good season.

Top 25 Impact Freshmen For 2010 College Football Season | Bleacher Report

Tyler Smith cracks the list. This line made me drool:

"Think Joe Flacco, and you're not too far off."

The Toy Department: Gary Williams: still an enigma

Interesting piece from Kevin Cowherd at The Sun. Gary doesn't crack smiles very often. It's just not his personality. Some people need to have that demeanor to be at their best.

Charm City Challenge in jeopardy without corporate sponsor - Baltimore Business Journal

Came across this and thought it was interesting. The Charm City Challenge has always been a great showcase for Baltimore basketball talent. Hopefully a certain Baltimore-based apparel company can pick up the event...

Recruiting Report: Weekend wrap

Slow weekend, but always good linkage.

Just in case you missed Ben B's story on GV and his POY candidacy ...

Greivis Vasquez Named ACC Player of the Week

Been a good week for Greivis. Just another award - second time this year - to propel his player of the year campaign.

Seth Davis on the GV for POY Bandwagon

We all know his Terp hoop knowledge, but he's sitll a major media member with clout:

• Anyone else out there noticing that Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez is the best player in the ACC?

If the Terps keep winning...

they keep going up, IMO. Simple as that. I agree with your assertion they’re the second-best team in the league, it’s just a matter of getting enough league wins to bury some of those early season losses.

A 7/8 seed?

We’re having a better regular season then last year, or at least in conference. If we can win all of our non-Duke games, have a decent conference tourney we should get better then 7/8. But that’s all IF.

Pretty sure if we won “all of our non-Duke games” that would put us at 12-4 in the ACC plus a decent tourney would put us pretty close to at least a 4 seed maybe not 3 because of lack of top tier victory OOC or in conference

4 or 5 seed?

Would love to see that, but we definitely have a very tough finish with our remaining games in the ACC…
